Hey guys,

I am looking to get a credit report (and pay for a legit one) but there are so many scams floating around I'm not sure where a good place to get one is.

Someone help a brotha out. :)

You are entitled by law to a FREE credit report issued from the 3 reporting companies. You get one report from them FREE per year.

Contact Equifax, Experian and TransUnion directly or go to the FTC gov website for more information and to go to the one website you need to which is 'annualcreditreport dot com'....

http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/microsites/freereports/index.shtml

http://www.ftc.gov/bcp/edu/pubs/consumer/credit/cre34.shtm

Don't pay some scamming or data-mining company to 'sell' you a 'reporting/monitoring service subscription' for getting you the free report you can get on your own...unless you want the monitoring service...

Thanks for the info Wolf,

I'm looking for an in depth report with credit scores and whatnot. The one that the government offers doesn't contain all of the information I am looking for and is pretty bare-bones.

Very true, Contact the big 3 and simply pay for the complete report.

The only way to get real scores is to buy your report from MyFico.com.  They are the owners of the FICO scoring system that lending institutions use.  Though it has changed in that you can only get 2 of the 3 scores there, I believe transunion is the one you can't get.  If you go to creditboards.com, they have a discount thread for myfico.

The rest of the scores you can buy are "fake" scores, that don't really mean anything.

uhhh you can obtain your score from the agencies.

I rather trust them than some 3rd party BS.

You can get scores but they aren't the scores that most of the lending institutions use, which is the FICO model, which means they aren't of any use really.  The FICO algorithm is proprietary and can only be obtained from FICO, even with that, consumers can only access the FICO classic score which is only one of many scores that FICO produces.

Here, this the most legit credit report website around.  There are no hitches to it, no "fraud alert for $34.95 crap."  Matter of fact, I believe you can get a discount through this site when you purchase your Fico score.  I have used this site for 3 years.
