What would 60% darker look like? I like the 40% from the current options.

So now you're getting sensitive to the overwhelmingly negative reviews and starting to insult the members who don't like what you've done with the place? The only positive comments I've seen from anybody have been from your moderators and staff. I haven't seen a single post from any regular member gushing praise over the new format. You're so convinced that this new POS is 'Tha Bomb' that you no longer need the forum members?

Keep in mind that more than 95% of the people who don't like it will simply leave without ever saying a word. Every single member who posts a criticism easily represents at least 20 others who have already left.

Here's the deal, buddy. This isn't the final product, so all we're asking from members is to give us some time and the benefit of the doubt. We appreciate the constructive criticism but the "Site sucks change it back" comments are getting old. We get it, the reception is not good to the new site, but we're not pulling the plug without getting to the final product. In time the site will have all these issues worked out and will be worth the effort of the upgrade, but right now it's a work in progress. Please don't judge the upgrade simply on what is in front of you right now, but give us a chance to work things out and produce something everyone likes in time.

 

SJE is not being sensitive, but it's very frustrating no doubt when people won't give you the benefit of the doubt when he says we'll fix what the people don't like. The site will evolve a ton over the upcoming weeks and months, bear with us.

 

In all honesty, I have been around since the early days, under a different username of course.. Gil, I have a ton of respect for you and where HSM is headed, but its clear that not much foresight was implemented into the changeover and at this point is a mess. I wish you the best as weve traded alongside oneanother for years, remember when SIMON first joined and was a lost puppy peeing on the porch?? Fact is HSM is the greatest site on the net but the ones that give critical reviews are just being blunt and to the point, which is not to slap you in the face.

To get back on topic a bit, the issue with the color (to me at least) is the white background. It's just too much. With this much white, it pulls everything into it and washes it all out. The 40% darker option will help, but it still has too much white. Even the individual posts have too much white. If you quote a post, and key your text on the line right below the quote, it adds too much white space between the quote and comment. Or even if there's not a quote, a doublespaced entry looks more like a quad-spaced entry.

You might consider a different color background and save the white for user input like this reply box, the forum nav dropdown (not the mouse-over menu), etc. I thought about a watermark background, but you have to be careful with those as text can get lost in the graphic. Here's an example of a forum with a non-white background. I'm not suggesting those particular colors, but more the use of color. Incidentally, that site went through a major changeover last year. It took them a couple of tries before they got contrast issues worked out, lol.

 

Would love to see 60 80 100 percent darker as voting options, once we determine 40 has waxed the current competition, which is obv at this point.

Rather telling of how poorly researched the Huddler platform is when absolutely nobody voted for their standard color scheme. Are you their first client?
