Some DD on RPTP
RPTP notes
OS: 30.21 Million
Drug: Delayed Release Cysteamine
-phase 3 study expected to be complete 4Q10 with results
expected 1Q11 to support potential NDA
-Cysteamine bitartrate has been used to treat cystinosis since 1978
-DR Cysteamine is a delayed release formulation of cysteamine bitartrate
-Only 2000 known cases in the world (orphan drug status)
-Current dose for Cysteamine bitartrate is every 6 hours compared to
DR Cysteamine twice daily (30% lower)
-Primary endpoint- Steady state white blood cell cystine levels in DR
Cysteamine compared to immediate release Cysteamine
Bitartrate
-The majority of RPTP's senior management were previously employed by
BioMarin (BMRN) prior to 2005 and during that time had 2 orphan drugs
approved by the FDA (Naglazyme May05 and Aldurazyme April03)
-Raptor is also in Phase 2 trials with DR Cysteamine for potential treatment of
Huntington's Disease and Non-alcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH)
We know that immediate release cysteamine is effective in treating cystinosis but the question is, does the delayed release have the same effect as the immediate release and will it meet the endpoint. It would be nice to have someone with a medical background take a look at the trial and chime in. (HINT HINT)
