Are you Islamophobic?

Alright so I'm just curious to see how many of us here on HSM suffer Islamophobia... I'll be straight up honest with you all, and I hope this doesn't come across as being a racist or prejudice or whatever, but I will admit that people of the Middle East decent (Arab Muslims) totally freak me out! You name it from the turban heads, to the black beards, to the bushy eyebrows... It all scares the shat outta me. I always get this instant thought pop into my head as if they are going to blow themselves up or something... Sometimes I get so shaken up that I want to call up security. Rapid heartbeat and all. Not kidding. For example, I'll be taking the subway home from work, when I see this Muslim guy hop in, and I will quickly assume in my head that he is up to no good... That he might have explosives hidden in his brief case, or backpack, or in the case of the X-mas day terrorist, in his underwear, and is ready to ignite them. Kaboom!

I really don't know why I've become like this, I guess I've been watching too much news or whatever, but it's a true story I'm not making any of this up. Sometimes my fears even turn into anger, and there are times that I wish I had a bat in my hand to take a swing right in the guys mug... Don't take it personal guys, I'm just trying to describe to y'all what goes on in my head.

My question to all of you is- is there anyone else on this site who is suffering the same problems as I? And second- what can I do about this? I really wish I didn't have these issues... A good friend of mine who lives in NY believes he is also Islamophic. He is constantly worried about Muslims, and afraid of them pulling off an attack while he is taking the bus, subway in the city, etc.

I can't say that I am fully at fault though... The media has alot to do with the way I think... I do watch alot of Fox News.

Just wondering if anyone else on here has similar issues.... Thanks guys, and please try to keep this thread sane. I'd greatly appreciate that.

take care,
-BM29.

Kinda hard not to be "Islamophobic", it's been bad news for over 1000 years.
Do I hate Arabs, Kurds, Persians, Phoenicians, Assyrians? Nope. I actually love my cousins, I believe I understand these people. Their imperialist religion of cleansing however is another story.

She's not bad either. But she was allegedly murdered by an Egyptian tycoon.

The cleric would not be happy with the amount of skin shows, nor the police in parts.

Apparently Bill Maher is now an Islamophobe.

Will Bill Maher be treated like Juan Williams was?

Probably not.

Possibly the major reason is because Bill Maher is know as being very anti-religion. People will roll their eyes and go, "Oh, there goes Bill, going on a rant against religion again!" Maher has made a few relatively "anti-semitic" remarks throughout his career. When that Helen Thomas (is that right?) made some comments, the left, the right, and the center ripped her apart. Yet Maher was unchecked...a part of it is because he is a comedian; they usually get a bit of slack when it comes to these issues...

Partially, it is because he is a "liberal"; he gets some slack because of that; I think that is where you were going...

Also, he is a pretty "rough" guy (like Rush Limbaugh), and people generally give those kinds of people a little slack.

What helps Bill Maher is who he is...when Rush Limbaugh says what everyone is thinking, people brush it off, because Rush Limbaugh is known to say racially insensitive things that people don't think (no one likes to think they are Archie Bunker)...but Maher doesn't have that stigma attached to him (rightfully so), and people are more inclined to say "yeah, I think that too!"

I'm still more afraid of Mexicans and Asians
Oh, and the blacks.

Jewish bankers are pretty scary too.

No. I have some Muslim friends whom I've known for almost 10 years now. They, like many, are in the US to practice their religion freely, and enjoy the many benefits of being American. The media is playing into people's fears to obtain ratings. No, I won't limit it to Fox News either. We should be cautious of any extremists, but not fear and persecute all whom we don't fully understand. Best way to understand someone and their culture is to have a civilized discussion with them.

No, it is people like this that freak me out...

I really don't know if these guys are in the minority or the majority in the Arab/Muslim/Islamic world, but the way the news media like Fox News perceives them, it appears as if they are they majority. I know not all Muslims are terrorists, but you can't really make an argument that all terrorists are Muslim. Just look at the last 10 terror scares in the world. THEY WERE ALL MUSLIMS! I guess I'm the only one on this site who thinks this way, but to me I just feel like the entire Arab Muslim world is filled with violent/hateful people, wanting to kill innocent people just because their religion tells them so... What kind of freaking religion is that!!??? And don't even tell me that these are just a few bad apples...
  • 9/11
  • London Bombings
  • Madrid Bombings
  • Russia Bombings
  • Fort Hood Shooter
  • X-mas Day Terrorist
  • NYC Car Bomber
  • NYC Subway Bomb Plot
  • Cargo Jet Bomb Plot

Need I continue..........?????

When does this insanity end....... SIGH.

I'm sorry but I just really needed to get this off my chest here... I am just so frustrated with all of this. I don't know what the solution is here... Do we finally get to the boiling point in this country where we need to put a ban for all Muslims from taking the public transportation system or something??? What is it gonna take to get these guys to knock it off already... We're just not gonna take this crap anymore!!!

Ugh... I guess no one on here understands me. Forget it it's useless.

It is probably less Islam and more of something that
scares the CRAP out of the entire world.....

A people that value life so little that they would strap
on a stick of explosive and commit suicide. We have
been through this before in the recent past with the
Kamikaze mindset in WWII.

Will we be forced to annihilate and humiliate them in
the same way Japan was to stop it? The biggest issue
at the time was FORCING Hirohito to grovel to the
Japanese people and denounce his "GOD" level status
& claiming to be nothing but a mere mortal.

Getting Islamic countries to recognize the Arab historians
that debunk Mohammad's claim of visiting Heaven & Allah
then returning to Earth. One of many issues....

Yet, the rest of the world can say:

"My god, those Americans!"

A people that value life so little that they have the death penalty
A people that value life so little that they have people without any healthcare
A people that value life so little that they allow abortions of fetuses
A people that value life so little that they don't allow stem cell research that could save lives
A people that value life so little that they put sanctions and blockades on nations, causing the deaths of many women and chidren, brushing them off as "casualties of war"
A people that value life so little that they have these unmanned drones in Pakistan, killing innocents, and brushing them off as "casualties of war"
A people that value life so little that they kill civilians when targeting "enemy" operations, and call the deaths "unaviodable"
A people that value life so little that they dropped two atomic bombs on Japan, killing thousands and adversely effecting the health of possibly millions...

But the fact is those two things aren't synonymous.

He's only known by people who make up quotes and stick it in his mouth and then those people believe him. No ones whose ever listened to at least 3 broadcasts would say he's is racially insensitive.

I have. I haven't regularly listened to him since the 90s (first busy with school, now I can't stand the guy)

He is racially insensitive.

I have heard him talk racially about Donovan McNabb...

He's made fun of blacks through his discussions of the NAACP...

I have heard him talk extremeley insensitivly about Barack Obama (calling him, "uppity", Barack the magic negro? Unacceptable!)

I heard him tell a caller to take a bone out of her nose (I don't know what happend to the clip of this....they played on Fox News of all things in the 90s...)...

Those are just three; the ones that stick out in my mind.

He doesn't talk about race all the time. But when he does talk about it, he very often is very boorish.

I am 90% sure he says those things mostly because he wants to attract attention, and only partially because he actually believes those things...

Sounds like you just admited not to. "uppity" "magic negro" is quoting the LA Times not Rush Limbaugh. It's a good thing him mocking, satirizing and quoting a black columnist is what sticks out in your mind.
Secondly, maybe take a look at the NAALCP. How can anyone really defend this racist group and claim others are the bigots? Like Sharpton going off about it being "our time". Just like the mayors of NOLA and Philadelphia.

Newsflash, McNabb sucks, Rush is right. Just like the Magic Negro bit, this is also you getting this from some blog or "news" program. Those are the two big ones people like to use when they hope to pull a fast one.

But I'm used to it too. Elsewhere I post a lot of news stories and columns, and the nutjobs always think it's me writing it. It's fun how all this works. Anyone can get this on any level.

I was not aware that Rush Limbaugh's song "Barack, the magic Negro" was a satirization. Proof? And even if it was borrowing the phrase from another article, he wrote a song about it meaning to insult the President.

We aren't talking about the NAACP's racism. Limbaugh, IIRC, said "the NAACP should practice looting and riots". I am paraphrasing, but he's obviously implying "Blacks loot and riot, the NAACP is a "Black group" so they must do that...

Newsflash, McNabb sucks, Rush is right. Just like the Magic Negro bit, this is also you getting this from some blog or "news" program. Those are the two big ones people like to use when they hope to pull a fast one.

He said that the media was obsessed with finding a Black quarterback. He said that McNabb sucked but was being talked up because he was Black. McNabb, IIRC, carried his team to the superbowl. That is enough reason to be discussing him. Last year people were talking about Jonathan Toews as the next Bryan Trottier? Is he? Of course not, but you lead your team to a championship, and that is what happens. Also, it was not too long ago when people said "Blacks will be great linesmen and recievers cause they are big and can run fast, but they aren't smart enough to play the cerebral game of a quarterback". I think it is a fair point that the media does talk about how McNabb's race totally invalidates that stereotype

But I'm used to it too. Elsewhere I post a lot of news stories and columns, and the nutjobs always think it's me writing it. It's fun how all this works. Anyone can get this on any level.
There are more things as well: He says Obama is doing reparations for Blacks; that is what stimulus is.

He implied that photos of Obama make him look like the Devil...

Oh no, he's racially "insensitive!"

No, you didn't. You heard him mention that the media was talking up Donovan McNabb because he is black. IE: Rush was criticizing the media for nto being race neutral.

Quote:

No idea what you're talking about here. How about some evidence, as we're not going to take your word for it. Although, i'm possitive you've got this wrong as you do your McNabb nonesense.

Quote:

The song was written by Paul Shanklin who works for Rush Limbaugh. It's a parody of a Los Angeles Times Article titled, "Magic Nego returns"

Sure you did. And if you did, i'm sure context doesn't matter.

Since they are all nonesense, maybe you should quit? The first rule of holes is to stop digging.

Yeah, right. Coming from someone who doesn't listen to Rush, but instead listens to his critics who make this stuff up out of thin air.

I'm 91% sure you have no idea what you're talking about.
