I don't even know what a leveraged ETF is, I just picked them from a scan list. But thats my luck!! Oh well, congrats to ever who won..

So my first choice was TYP and I think it finished up 33%(please double check my math), my second choice does not count, so I would still average 16.5% is that correct?

Sorry I did not read rules better it wont happen again..

I also added a new line into the rules beginning with the next contest that if picks are out of compliance after the contest starts then the contestant will have to forfeit.

Even though we are individually responsible for selecting picks meeting the requirements, if anyone notices for example that two picks are etf's, please pm me or that person. The last thing I want to do is tell someone they are out of this contest or remove them from the first place position.

I take alot of pride in running this contest and making HSM an enjoyable place for this type of competition. Let's all work together and try to keep an eye out for things like this.

Thanks for the contest and congrats to the winner!!

I really don't think being no 12 is too bad.

I only picked it up because Sandstock was in 1st and I always check the stocks of the 1st several places to see if I want to add them to my watchlist.

There are so many leveraged etfs that it is hard for anyone to be able to recognize all of them as people post their picks. I had no idea TYP was one until I checked it to see why it was up so much.

If I see this again, I will PM you instead of post. I wasn't trying to call Sandstock out or embarass him, I just saw it and posted. I am just direct. I apologize...PM next time

Just for clarification I did not intend to come accross harsh. You're right in the fact that sometimes one we don't see often can slip through. I suggested in the Feb thread that maybe we put ETF in parenthesis when picking the plays.

I don't feel you were harsh...I just know that I am too direct sometimes. My poor 88 year old Mother has spent much of her life slapping me upside the head and saying "Learn some tact, Veg!"

In retrospect, I see that it would have been better handled had I used a PM instead of posting.

As always, I appreciate the hard work you put in running these contests for us

How come my VIX pick was disqualified?

Is it considered an ETF, or something?
Also, pardon my ignorance, but how come I only had one pick and got 18.1% return on that pick, but my total ROI was half that?

(18.1 + 0)/2 since VIX doesn't count. ROI is the average of the two, if your VIX was disqualify I think what happens is its counted as 0%.

Baggi, it is my understanding when I took over the contest a few months back that indexes are not played in the contests - only ETF's and company stocks. Total ROI ends up averaging your two picks.

Yeah 3rd.

Does all this chaos regarding ETFs mean I win?

So it's counted as a pick that broke even, rather than no pick at all?

That's fine and all, just trying to figure out the rules as this is the first time ive played. It's not like you get a prize for winning or something.

Ive only just started, I read through the first page and didn't see any prohibition to picking the VIX.

I don't want to make that same mistake again, which is why I wondered what was wrong with the pick.

Yes.

Baggi, this is a stock picking contest. Not an index contest or options contest. VIX is not a stock and cannot be traded like a stock.

So there.
So, who technically won this?
I wish my AMZN and XOM extended into today . Would've moved me up a few places.

Well, I guess I have to change the winner.
In the future, I will double check everyone's picks before the first spreadsheet is put up so that may delay things a little. If someone picks two etf's from now on and it is not noticed till the contest has already started they will be removed from the contest. I cannot guarantee that I will, or should have to for that matter, check everyone's picks prior to the contest start.

The rules are clearly written in the first post as it states on the thread title.
You're right, Ace. It is each person's responsibility to make sure that they read and understand the rules BEFORE they make their picks.

Seriously, how much effort does it take for everyone to check a quote for each pick before they post to check to make sure it is a valid pick?
