Where would be the morality in that?

Increase in demand for balut would not only be cruel to them poor animals, but also to us HUMANS

I remember when I was about 6 or 7 years old and I "found" a duck egg in my pantry (not cooked, no idea if it was fertile),
I hid it for almost a week--sleeping with it, before I ended up squishing it

I like eating duck eggs. I am sure my sister can vouch for me on that.

But no balut for me, thank you very much.

Duck eggs are great for pastries, pancakes etc. Amazing color, but I don't care for them by themselves--scrambled, fried etc. I used to have 30 khaki campbell laying ducks. Pastry chefs love the eggs. Someday I'll sell goose eggs. The White Chinese geese I have are prolific layers from Feb-June. $1/egg.

Agreed. I think it would be hard to find any pretty girls to kiss you after eating one of those balut. Although, I know a lot of guys who chew Copenhagen with kids...just no accounting for taste, is there?

Tell me about it. My part-time coworker's (who is not all that attractive but isn't butt ugly) boyfriend dips. Just kinda grosses me out that she'll put her tongue in that mouth.

You know the saying, you are what you eat.

But, that would make me a pu...er, never mind.

How was the balut?

Didn't it smell awful? Over the years I have happened upon clutches of eggs that were left sitting for weeks and the smell is truly nauseating, and it lasts. If I get some on my gloves, I throw the gloves away. I must be missing something with the balut--never seen one except on this thread.

Well I don't know if it smells or not, because when I ate it, it had sauce and the sauce tasted good. After all this talk about balut, i feel like i'm not gonna like it anymore :S

Interesting, can you describe the sauce? Is it something you've eaten just once, or on occasion? Not trying to bust your chops, food and culture are fascinating to me so I find this discussion very interesting

Don't let a buncha goofy people on a website convince you to not like something because we're afraid to try it
