Oops...I should mention I play other's picks all the time as well. It's the cumulative knowledge base here that I have at my fingertips that helps me the most. I can't have my eye on every stock at all times.

Swing, mostly I like T&A, sometimes I throw in fundamentals to spice things up.

Haven't shorted yet, but I have bought short ETFs. I have a margin account but don't use it.

Occaisional daytrade, 2-4/month. Usually my daytrades are because I realize I just F'ed up and need to bail on a trade

Mostly swing trades with a mix of T/A and fundies. I screen based on T/A and then refine my list with fundies knowing chances are good that my entry will suck and I will have to hold for 2 weeks or more.

So far I have only trade stocks and etfs.

Never shorted. Have traded short etfs

I was wondering from the experienced traders on here... When you first started trading..how did you start?

Like..what was your technique at first? I just need some boost to focus on so I can at least start trading..

And after you became more and more advanced what was did you say in your head that made you go "WOW I wish someone told me this at first"

I just really need a style right now. There is so much different ways to investing and I don't know where to start.

As of right now I'm looking at "pinch" plays.. I've learned a lot and think they are a good way to start. But I know there is other kinds of ways to start also..

Any suggestions...props for any help!

What i would suggest is watching a successful trader in the watchlist section, and try and figure out why they picked the stocks they picked... what do all his picks have in common and then based on that try and find your own picks.. then post them in his thread and see if you're doing it right

And yea I'm learning a lot...its my favorite thread and I'm real interested..

I still don't know how to look for my own stocks though? All those pinches he posts up.. I don't know how he found them... And I've heard something like you need stockfetcher or something but I was wondering If there's a free program out there. What do you use?

Read Mitzter's 'How to Play Breakouts" thread, 28 threads down from this one. He outlines the process of screen for stocks on Finviz for free. He does it so well that even a poor dumb dirt farmer like me was able to do it. It's taken my trading to a whole new level. Not pinchers, but good stuff that you can make money off of right away.

I have tried a little bit of everything since I started trading late last year...
Stocks, short and long, pennies, large cap, and everywhere in between
Options, short and long
Forex, short and long
I would try futures, but I don't have enough cash for margin.

I day trade for quick 1 minute in and out, as well as "invest" and hold for months. Shortest trade probably 15 seconds, longest trade is still going and I've been long in it for about 10 months now.

I've tried TA - but can't keep my emotions out of it.
I've tried flipping a coin - seriously!
I've tried DD and believing in a company
I've tried on news, but the sheeple ALWAYS react the opposite of what I think they will.

I have accounts at 2 different ToS and TDAmeritrade.
At ToS I have a cash account AND a margin account AND a forex account.

End result.... everything I have tried has ended up with me losing money! lol
But it sure is fun, and I only play with money I can lose. So while it hurts to lose... it doesn't really HURT... if you know what I mean.
