Online Canadian broker - Page 2

another canadian guy here

I use RBC direct and if you maintain 30 trades every 3 months its 9.95 per trade. when you sign up you get a Canadian and a US acct. on the US side they will post the triple 0 prices in real time but on the canadian side they only post double 0. you can buy and sell up to 3,000,000 shares at a time...also I can buy and sell stocks that other brokers won't post any info on...and there is no minimum balance...

They're okay-ish... I can't guarantee 30+ trades per quarter, and the fees for under 30 trades are the same $20 elsewhere; Questrade is good, but I hear a lot of people say they are very slow in filling OTCBB/Pink Sheet orders which is what I'd like to trade ATM...

What do you guys think about Tradefreedom? Im considering signing up with them since my other consideration (Thinkorswim) isnt taking applications to open new accounts at this time.

Tradefreedom: Less than 150 trades/quarter = $10 a trade. Options $7 + 1.25/contract.

Minimum funding for a margin account is $300 Canadian and they allow you to have Canadian or US currency on account. This is the part that excites me because i want to be free to trade on the NYSE and NASDAQ so i would probably just hold all my funds in US denomination. This allows for paying the currency exchange and transaction fees once at deposit instead of settling for every trade right?

Any opinions would be appreciated.

I started out using TD Waterhouse, and was overall pretty happy until I was unable to log in for the 3rd or 4th time. It was down way to much for my liking.

Then went to Interactive Brokers, attracted by the low, low commissions, but I disliked everything else - especially trying to get somebody on the phone. Didn't like IB at all as far as getting around, interface, reporting etc.

Been using QTrade out of Vancouver for a couple years now, and it has been truly phenomenal. Amazing customer service if you ever need to call, extremely reliable, good execution, and a very easy concise layout that makes sense IMO. Worth checking out. About $20 a trade, and that goes to $7/per if you trade over 30 every 90 days. (But you have to do the 30 trades first )The Globe and Mail ranked Qtrade the number one online Broker for four years in a row.
