A little more info

I dont have a position in this yet. I think it may be a company on the up and up.

DreamWorks Animation SKG bucked Hollywood's trend of declining DVD sales and rode a hot-streak at the box office and to its best-ever first quarter.

Owing to the performance of "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" in theaters and on DVD, first-quarter profit more than doubled.

Home video sales fell about 9% industry-wide in 2008, according to Adams Media Research. But the DreamWorks results tell a different story. "Madagascar 2," released in the domestic video market Feb. 6, sold 6.7 million units world-wide as of the end of the quarter, making it one of the two best-selling DVDs of the year so far, behind Summit Entertainment's "Twilight."

Parents are often more willing to buy DVDs of children's movies, as they get watched repeatedly.

"Our DVD business is just simply performing with a different set of metrics than the rest of the industry," said DreamWorks Chief Executive Jeffrey Katzenberg in an earnings call Tuesday.

"Madagascar 2," released in the domestic video market Feb. 6, sold 6.7 million units world-wide as of the end of the quarter, making it one of the two best-selling DVDs of the year so far.
"We've now been through, you know, one of the most difficult, challenging and turbulent times in the home video business over these last nine months," Mr. Katzenberg added. "We have two blockbuster title that have just simply not been impacted in the same way [as] the rest of the industry."

The company's strong performance in the first quarter, particularly at the box office, is an encouraging sign for the rest of Hollywood, just ahead of the summer tentpole season, when the studios release their biggest films.

DreamWorks reported net income of $62.3 million, or 71 cents a share, up from $26.1 million, or 28 cents a share, a year earlier.

The latest results included an $18.8 million tax benefit related to a tax-sharing agreement with a former stockholder. Revenue jumped 68% to $263.5 million.

is it too simple to just run with the momo on this one? it doesn't have huge swings, but when it moves, it moves consistently for about 2-3 weeks.

Well, I'm a cautionary tale on this one, but maybe it can get someone else some cash.

I picked this up a couple of days ago at 31 after it got pummeled, thinking there was no way it could fall much further than that. Thought about selling it pre-market yesterday at 31.55 because I had a bad feeling, but I sat. It promptly went to 28 yesterday. It's now at 29.73. I absolutely think it's going to hit 32 in a reasonably short period of time, so it's worth looking at if someone has room in their portfolio. I'm stuck playing for even at this point, because I'm in heavy enough on it to where I don't wanna cut losses.

wow, what has caused this one to go down so much?
Shrek 4 did not do as well as expected.

BTW. though, i've been watching this since the police baton gave it a beat down. It looks like it is in for a reversal next week im looking at 32 for a target, though it may break past it.

Some news of interest is that last weekend, despite the bad numbers, the sales got much better as the weekend progressed. This may mean that the sales will be picking up. So the news to watch this week is the sales numbers for shrek.

just my two cents.

I'm surprised there is not more talk on this thread?

I took a loss on this one not too far back. I bought it on weakness after that whole "Shrek 4 disappoints" bit, thinking that it drove the stock unfairly down. Lost a buck a share, which is still better than where it is now. DWA doesn't have much on the horizon right now, so I expect this stock to languish for a while.
