Interesting. You would never know this from the media coverage of her.
They have been too focused on "demonizing" her.

Question: What is America 's first line of missile interceptor defense that
protects the entire United States ?
Answer: 49th Missile Defense Battalion of Alaska National Guard.

Question: What is the ONLY National Guard unit on permanent active duty?
Answer: 49th Missile Defense Battalion of Alaska National Guard

Question: Who is the Commander in Chief of the 49th Missile Defense
Battalion of Alaska National Guard?
Answer: Governor Sarah Palin, Alaska

Question: What U.S. governor is routinely briefed on highly classified
military issues, homeland security, and counter terrorism?
Answer: Governor Sarah Palin, Alaska

Question: What U.S. governor has a higher classified security rating than
either candidate of the Democrat Party?
Answer: Governor Sarah Palin, Alaska

According to the Washington Post, she first met with McCain in February,
but nobody ever found out. This is a woman used to keeping secrets. She can
be entrusted with our national security, because she already is.

It adds to the list of things Obama/Biden
can't claim on their political resumes.

Fact Check: Palin's Alaska spreads its wealth
By RITA BEAMISH, Associated Press Writer – 2 hrs 24 mins ago

Republicans John McCain and Sarah Palin summon antidemocratic images of a communist state to attack Democrat Barack Obama's tax plan and his comment about spreading the wealth around. But in her home state, Palin embraces Alaska's own version of doing just that.

Palin and McCain seized on a comment Obama made to Ohio plumber Joe Wurzelbacher, who asked about his tax plans.

Obama wants to raise taxes on families earning $250,000 to pay for cutting taxes for the 95 percent of workers and their families making less than $200,000. "I think when you spread the wealth around, it's good for everybody," he told Wurzelbacher.

McCain said that sounds "a lot like socialism" to many Americans. Palin has derided the Illinois senator as "Barack the Wealth Spreader."

But in Alaska, Palin is the envy of governors nationwide for the annual checks the state doles out to nearly every resident, representing their share of the revenues from the state's oil riches. She boosted those checks this year by raising taxes on oil.

McCain campaign spokesman Taylor Griffin said Thursday that spreading wealth through Obama's tax plan and doing it through Alaska's oil-profit distribution are not comparable because Alaska requires the state's resource wealth to be shared with residents, but it's not taxing personal income.

"It's how the revenue is shared between the oil companies and the state."

A look at Palin's and McCain's comments and the record in Alaska:

THE SPIN:

"Barack Obama calls it spreading the wealth. Joe Biden calls higher taxes patriotic," Palin told a crowd in Roswell, N.M., and elsewhere. "But Joe the Plumber and Ed the Dairyman, I believe they think it sounds more like socialism.

"Friends, now is no time to experiment with socialism."

In Ohio, she asked, "Are there any Joe the Plumbers in the house?" To cheers, she said, "It doesn't sound like you're supporting Barack the Wealth Spreader."

McCain told a radio audience that Obama's plan "would convert the IRS into a giant welfare agency, redistributing massive amounts of wealth at the direction of politicians in Washington."

"Raising taxes on some in order to give checks to others is not a tax cut; it's just another government giveaway."

THE FACTS:

In Alaska, residents pay no income tax or state sales tax. They receive a yearly dividend check from a $30 billion state investment account built largely from royalties on its oil. When home fuel and gas costs soared last year, Palin raised taxes on big oil and used some of the money to boost residents' checks by $1,200. Thus every eligible man, woman and child got a record $3,269 this fall.

She also suspended the 8-cent tax on gas.

"We can afford to share resource wealth with Alaskans and to temporarily suspend the state fuel tax," she said at the time.

Much as Obama explains his tax hike on the rich as a way to help people who are struggling, Palin's statement talked about the energy costs burdening Alaskans:

"While the unique fiscal circumstances the state finds itself in at the end of this fiscal year warrant a special one-time payment to share some of the state's wealth, the payment comes at a time when Alaskans are facing rising energy prices. High prices for oil are a double-edged sword for Alaskans. While public coffers fill, prices for heating fuel and gasoline have skyrocketed over the last six months and are now running into the $5- to $9-a-gallon range for heating fuel and gasoline across several areas of the state."

In an interview with The New Yorker last summer Palin explained that she would make demands of a new gas pipeline "to maximize benefits for Alaskans":

"And Alaska we're set up, unlike other states in the union, where it's collectively Alaskans own the resources. So we share in the wealth when the development of these resources occurs."

TWO Diffrent things this Liberal fruit cake just doesnt know what hes talking about. First Obama will raise everyone tax once he passes universal health care that means higher taxes for middle class and double taxes for buisness that means they will cut the easiest variable cost there is Labor and then we have more poor. Palin has a windfall tax on the oil companys so she only takes a small percent of the PROFIT from the oil companys not citizens but buisness..... BIG DIFFRENCE FRUIT CAKE LIBERAL MEDIA...

Wow...you are nearly as angry and full of hatred as Techunter. I would hate to be as miserable as you two are. I mean, there are things I like AND dislike about BOTH candidates. I personally don't think either are truly the face of change for this country and I choose to voice my opinion by voting Independent. I know, I know, I'll get it from BOTH sides that all I'm doing is throwing my vote away. But I just can't force myself to vote for the lesser of two wrong halves. Simply because you consider yourself to be Republican, you choose to vote for John McCain...is this the best Republicans could bring to the fight? And as for Barack, I pose the same question. Is this the BEST the Dems could do? While both are exemplary in their respective fields of expertise, I honestly don't think we're actually given a choice. I mean, it's like I'm being tortured, but I have the choice of having bamboo shoots driven into my fingernails or electrocuted. Personally, I choose the Independent mild torture of watching Rosanne reruns.

Michael Jackson opts out of Jackson 5 reunion
51 mins ago

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) – A reunion of the Jackson 5 is not quite as easy as "ABC."

Michael Jackson denied on Thursday that he would take part in a reunion of the famed Motown singing group, a day after elder brother Jermaine said the faded pop star was on board.

"My brothers and sisters have my full love and support, and we've certainly shared many great experiences, but at this time I have no plans to record or tour with them," the self-proclaimed "king of pop" said a statement.

Jackson, 50, said he was in the studio working on "new and exciting projects."

But Jermaine Jackson, 53, said in Australia on Wednesday that the clan was working on the music and logistics for a tour next year.

"It is going to be more like a family affair," he was quoted as saying by the Australian Associated Press. "(Younger sister) Janet's going to open and, of course, the original Jackson 5 ... Michael, Randy and the whole family. ... We're in the studio, we're planning on being out there next year."

Michael Jackson has not encouraged reunion talk. He did not show up with his brothers to collect a lifetime achievement award in Los Angeles in September.

The Jackson 5, whose lineup is rounded out by Jackie, 57, Tito, 55, and Marlon, 51, as well as unofficial member Randy, 47, rose to fame in the early 1970s with such singles as "I Want You Back," "ABC" and "I'll Be There." The group last toured in 1984, by which time Michael Jackson was a huge star in his own right.

His statement was credited to a spokesperson dubbed "Dr. Tohme." The publicity firm that distributed the statement declined to elaborate on the person's identity.

Sorry, Sarah Palin has zero operational control any US air defense. As she has zero operational control of any Alaskan National Guard deployed to Iraq or elsewhere overseas.

This from the guy who would vote Republican no matter WHO it was (even Rush Limbaugh), and vice versely would never vote for a Democrat no matter WHO it was (perhaps Dennis Kucinich?)...I don't believe you care whether a person is correct for the position, just what his (or her) affiliation is. I feel McCain missed the boat by not choosing someone like Condoleezza Rice for a running mate.

If memory serves me, you two were the first to complain
that you lost your rights and freedoms when Bush wire-

I'm sorry for your loss, prepare to lose more.

I didn't lose anything. I'm happy to live in a Democracy and not a Theocracy, as you seem, to prefer. The Constitution is fatally flawed. You know that. Such things should evolve with time. If you try to cling to old ideas, and old policies, it only leads to disaster.

Ewwwwwww....

Apparently you were naughty....

No Question here why you chose your
screen name, your failing is your flag.

Canadians shouldn't throw stones, I've been to Canada
on business and your workers are frantic about Gov policies
that kill opportunity. With an unemployment rate between
6-7% you could learn a lesson from the OLDEST Constitution
in the world.

If you claim to not be a Canadian, don't move there, no jobs.

In fact, your memory serves you so poorly that you only have to go back a couple of posts in this thread to see that I stated that McCain NOR Obama are correct for this Nation and that I'm voting Independent. Just more of your mudslinging and Weapons of Mass DISTRACTION techniques that you oh so pride yourself of...

Who's unregulated system has killed many countries in this credit crisis? USA
Who's MORE regulated system has reduced the problems the USA faces within it's own country? Canada
I love America, I'm applying to schools there currently. I enjoy how their Government works and I enjoy how their mainstream politics has really educated the average person. But they have faced some problems on such a large scale that were stupid and careless.
I think Obama would really benefit your great country and bring it to it's feet again.
I think there is a rule your Government can learn from Canada's constitution. FOLLOW IT
I admit our tax system is flawed but our country is doing well in this problematic time.
