Earnings week May 12th – 16th

JASO, Sprint and Kubota were some of the bigger names reporting this morning. Next up….Big week for Dry Shippers. Some solar companies reporting. Some China companies reporting. And a couple of landmines in FannieMae and MBIA.

Monday (May 12) after the bell:

NUAN - Nuance Communications Inc.
XFML - Xinhua Finance Media Ltd.

Tuesday (May 13) before Open

Bought a couple of LDK May 35 calls for tonight. Reasonable premium on that option and for a solar stock, a fairly low PE.

LDK numbers are out. I thought everything looked good but stock is down 5%. What am I reading wrong?

Expectations to beat more than they did. Which was why i was selling the majority of my calls up into earnings. I held onto a few though, those are going to make me sad panda tomorrow morning if it opens down.

This is why I trade on technicals and mainly ignore news nowadays. "Expectations to beat by more than they did"? That doesn't even make sense. They beat expectations. That's what 'beat' means. Crazy market.

Not a big deal, since I don't have much riding on this. Just frustrates me when a co. beats estimates and has future earns that are inline or better and tanks anyway. It's just all so freaking random. Oh well, hopefully it does what AAPL did and makes a big comback the next couple days.

You are missing it. The expectated numbers posted are from analysts. Analysts don't determine the stock price, the market does. The market expected earnings to be more around .53 EPS with 20% guidance increase (for example). They didn't provide, so the market sold. You are focusing on the analyst numbers too much.

This is a case where after hours are whacked. They beat all the way around. Sales, profit and forecast. An upgrade or two tomorrow morning and this will open green. AH's trading quite often gets it wrong.

LDK Solar posts 1Q net earnings above Street view

SAN FRANCISCO (Thomson Financial) - LDK Solar Co. late Monday reported first-quarter net earnings of $49.8 million, or 45 cents per American Depository Share, versus the mean 39-cent estimate of analysts polled by Thomson Reuters.

Revenue for the quarter ended March 31 was $233.4 million, versus the mean Street view of $218 million.

The Xinyu, China-based provider of solar wafers sees second-quarter revenue of $278 million to $288 million. The company revised its full-year revenue guidance to a range of $1.08 billion to $1.18 billion.

Analysts are currently expecting second-quarter revenue of $252 million and full-year revenue of $1.09 billion.

The stock closed the regular session up 41 cents at $37.46.

I hope your right. I myself don't see how this thing could go down off this report. But, the market is very weird and does things I don't expect. Hence the reason I'm not a zillionaire The P/E is pretty low on this stock as far as solar goes, it doesn't seem that the market expects anything superduper from it.

I'm guessing that the AH tank on LDK could possibly be manipulation to keep the price down until options expiration. These are good numbers. If the stock doesn't take off on these numbers, something's up. I guess we'll find out soon. If she stays down till Friday, I bet we see her take off next week. I'm just a bit perturbed because I've got May calls from two weeks ago that are still down 20% and now will open worthless in the morning.

Freddie XIII returns tomorrow morning. I think disaster is priced in, but you never know. DE might report well.

Nothing really pops out at me for tonight. I would take a chance on STV, but the May 22.5's are priced at $.55. With the stock trading at $20.20 that's takes a huge pop to hit pay dirt. BBI options are cheap considering they are going into earnings, so there is potential there with a big surprise. But few expect that.

An interesting play might be EXM tonight.....QMAR reports but they have been agreed to be acquired by EXM, so QMAR report is more important to EXM since QMAR's price is fixed. Of course being a lame duck, who knows what the quarter will bring. But EXM options are cheap considering QMAR earnings are on tap.
