Pennaco Energy and American Oil & Gas used the Powder River Basin as their launching pad, soaring from juniors to big guns with 660% and 700% share price returns, respectively.

Reports show this junior, Ameriwest Energy (AWEC), is sitting on 7.3 million barrels of oil between two properties but much of it has been locked inside because the technology to extract it just wasn’t available.

Ameriwest Energy Receives Permit Approval to Drill at Geary Prospect
8:45a ET February 17, 2009 (Market Wire)

Ameriwest Energy Corp. (OTCBB: AWEC) ("Ameriwest" or the "Company") is pleased to announce that the requisite permit approvals from the Wyoming Oil and Gas Conservation Commission have been granted thereby paving the way towards commencement of drilling operations for the Ameriwest Fee #1 well at the Company's Geary Prospect location.

Ameriwest recently submitted payment along with a full work plan identifying the location, timeline, infrastructure, access and electrical needs as required by law and the commission returned a timely approval on February 12th. The spud date remains as planned for on or near to March 16th and the Company intends to begin site preparations without delay.

Once drilling has begun, Ameriwest anticipates approximately 12 days to reach target depth. Based on initial results the Company could immediately elect to complete the well requiring an estimated 5 additional days prior to a brief period of testing and full assessment of the new well.

The target location is offset to 2 wells located in a well-documented part of the Geary Dome field in a prolific portion of the Powder River basin which has historically produced many millions of barrels of oil from several nearby fields. The main objective is structurally on trend with existing production within the Cretaceous Dakota sandstone formation with the possibility of production from other Cretaceous sands including the Upper and Lower Muddy, and Wall Creek (Frontier) sands. Initial estimates based on a full field program with 40 acre spacing across an estimated 18 wells indicate possible reserves of approximately 3 MMBO.

Company President Walter Merschat states, "We now have all our permits in place and are mobilizing to get equipment into the field as soon as possible. Everything is moving ahead as planned."

Like any stock you have to do your own research. There are no guarantees with any stock, otherwise we would all be clairvoyant and rich. I think there is promise in this stock........ but then again I thought buying BAC at $14 months ago was a bargain and VTLP at 30 cents was a bargain. Lost thousands on those plays.

Definition of “Spud Date” and
Correction to the Deep Re-Entry Well Deduction
On April 21, 2004, three changes to the Petroleum and Natural Gas Royalty and Freehold
Production Tax Regulation came into effect. The following provides a summary of these
changes.
1. A definition of “spud date” has been added to Section 1 of the Regulation. The spud date is now defined as “the date selected by the Oil and Gas Commission as the date on which the ground was first penetrated for the purposes of drilling the well.” Spud date is used in the Regulation to determine eligibility for several royalty incentives such as the deep well credit program.
2. Section 6 of the Regulation covers natural gas and natural gas by-product royalty and tax rates. Section 6(1), Item 1, part (a) has been amended to clarify that it is the spud date of the well (as opposed to the well event) that must be before June 1, 1998 in order for the royalty rate in Column 2 to apply to the non-conservative gas produced from the well event.

Ameriwest Energy Hires Independent Geologist to Validate Data
- Market Wire

As of 9:30 AM ET 2/4/09
Ameriwest Energy Corp. (OTCBB: AWEC) ("Ameriwest" or the "Company") is pleased to announce that it has contracted the services of licensed professional Geologist Connie Hawkins to provide an independent assessment of the target data towards further ensuring a successful outcome at the Ameriwest Fee #1 well to be drilled at the Company's Geary Prospect location on or near March 16th, 2009.

As previously noted the proposed well is on private lands and offset to 2 wells located in the Geary Dome field with cumulative production to-date of 323,617 BO and 29,515 MCF gas. It is also located nearby to the Weststar Keenan Fee 14-34 well with cumulative production of 156,860 BO and also within 1/2 mile of the Weststar Keenan Fee 16-27 well with cumulative production figures of 166,757 BO to date.

Materials to be used for the basis of the analysis include isopach and structure maps of the Dakota sands formation as well as private reference data and the construction of several cross-sections and similar maps using PetraCopyright software by the Geologist. The Geary Prospect is located in a prolific portion of the Powder River basin that has historically produced many millions of barrels of oil from such well known nearby fields as Brooks Ranch, Big Muddy, South Glenrock, and South Cole Creek to name a few. These fields all produce from Cretaceous age reservoirs, among which the lower Cretaceous Dakota Formation is an important contributor. These fields all result from a favorable combination of stratigraphy and structural components and were originally drilled based primarily on their obvious structural component.

[COLOR="DimGray"As data quality and understanding of stratigraphic concepts has improved, new oil that is trapped mainly by stratigraphy is still being found, not only in geographic association with these structures, but also in locations not directly associated with structure. The main objective is structurally well documented and on trend with existing production within the Cretaceous Dakota sandstone formation with the possibility of production from other Cretaceous sands including the Upper and Lower Muddy, and Wall Creek (Frontier) sands. Initial estimates based on a full field program with 40 acre spacing across an estimated 18 wells indicate possible reserves of approximately 3 MMBO. [/COLOR]

Company President Walter Merschat states, "We look forward to the results of the independent analyses within 1-2 weeks. This will give us ample to time to determine if we feel any final adjustments to our plans are indicated. Currently, all other aspects of the project including permitting and final approvals are moving ahead as planned, as are our plans for the continued development of the prospect with another 17 wells on the horizon, should the Ameriwest Fee #1 well prove successful."
so President Walter Merschat says results from analyses started 02/04/09 should be done by 2/11/09-2/18/09 ! today is the 21st ... did anyone see the news release that im missing?????

Ameriwest Energy Announces Proposed Spud Date for First Well at Geary Prospect
Friday September 12, 4:01 pm ET
CASPER, WY--(MARKET WIRE)--Sep 12, 2008 -- Ameriwest Energy Corp. (OTC BB:AWEC.OB - News) ("Ameriwest" or the "Company") is pleased to announce plans to spud the Ameriwest Fee #1 well on or near to November 5th, 2008, subject to certain conditions

The Company has a service agreement in place with a local drilling company and based on a preliminary rig availability assessment Ameriwest plans to approve an Authority for Expenditure ("AFE") agreement shortly. Ameriwest will be the operator of the project and anticipates a 10 day to 2 week period to drill to the target depth of approximately 7000 feet. If a discovery is made, the Company will make a determination to elect for completion as quickly as possible thereafter.

The proposed well is located in proximity to 2 wells located in the Geary Dome field with cumulative production to-date of 323,617 BO and 29,515 MCF gas. It is also located nearby to the Weststar Keenan Fee 14-34 well with cumulative production of 156,860 BO and also within 1/2 mile of the Weststar Keenan Fee 16-27 well with cumulative production figures of 166,757 BO to-date. The location is on fee (private lands) within the Area of Mutual Interest ("AMI") and as such, simplifies the permitting process.

As previously announced, an agreement was reached in August, 2008 with Tyler Rockies Exploration, Ltd. ("TREX") whereby Ameriwest can earn a 50% ownership of the approximately 3,040 gross acres within the Geary Prospect AMI located in Natrona and Converse Counties, Wyoming. Under the terms of the agreement, Ameriwest will operate and receive a 75% Net Revenue Interest ("NRI") until payout based on a 3 well program.

The Geary Prospect is located in the southwestern portion of the Powder River Basin. The main objective is structurally well documented and on trend with existing production within the Cretaceous Dakota sandstone with the possibility of production from other Cretaceous sands including the Upper and Lower Muddy, and Wall Creek (Frontier) sands. Initial estimates based on a full field program with 40 acre spacing across an estimated 18 wells indicate possible reserves of approximately 3 MMBO.

Company President Walter Merschat comments, "We are extremely fortunate to have an agreement allowing us to drill in such close proximity to known production. I have personally been studying this region for the past 20 years with great interest and look forward to finally making our mark on this prospect. It's a known fact that millions of barrels of Dakota oil have been produced from many nearby fields and our analysis give us a high level of confidence as we move ahead with this program."
