Anyone here use or heard of Think or Swim? I like the idea that I can short stocks for under $5. But I'm wondering if anyone knows about inactivity fees or anything else I should know before putting money in them.

I use them and like the platform, which is owned by investools. They will give you a $50 rebate everytime someone funds an acct on your recommendation. For instance if you fiund an account on my recomendation and give them my name and acct, the will credit me 50 bux. If you recommand someone and they fund, you get 50 bux. They also give you a $40/month rebate if you place 40 or more trades/month.

You can also negotiate commissions for options too.

They have 2 free real time charts for use which I like for redundancy. One of them is prophet charts, my favorite .

No inactivity fees, usually full access to all levels of option trading.
To many features to list on the platform.
Newest is "Black Box" feature.
there is constant improvements and upgrades and they listen to the customer.
Customer Service is five star.
usually on Wednesdays after market close they will give live seminars to teach complex option trading or platform features.

I don't think you will be disappointed.

Call Tom Sosnoff, he is the CEO and is a former CBOE floor trader, and a heck of a nice guy.

I've been with SogoTrade, TD Ameritrade and now ThinkOrSwim. Customer service is excellent, best of the 3

Rest is all said; amazing platform, matching fees etc..

This is probably a silly question but, I set up a TOS account I havent funded it yet I wanted to check out the system. I pulled up a spy chart got it the way I wanted with all my lines. I can't figure out how to save it. I closed TOS and when I reopened my chart was gone. Thanks

on the normal charts, not the flexible grid, there is a button in the upper right hand corner called "style"

click that and a drop down menu appears, select save style, give it a name, tick the box where it asks to include study set and save. Now when you open charts, your default will appear, go back to the style button and select the load style and select your saved one.

If you want your setup to be the default, then set up the chart how you like it, and select the same style button. Look for "Set chart default" in the drop down menu. That makes the current chart setup the default when you open up TOS.

edit:
Just a FYI, my account saves the last chart setup I had when I open TOS again. Not sure if that's a funded account perk or not.

No problem!
so I guess it must be funded to get access to that feature.

the only thing stopping me from switching to thinkorswim from etrade is etrades trading platform. ive come to realize that nothing even comes close to power etrade. i tested out thinkorswims platform and o my god i cant believe how confusing and hard to use it is.

That's because you are used to work with the E-trade platform. It's a change and in the beginning that's a bit annoying, but as soon as you use this platform you don't want something else anymore. It rocks

I agree that thinkorswim's platform is not very user friendly. I have a thinkorswim and Ameritrade account and I enjoy using Ameritrade with Quotertracker so much more.

wow. if you think ameritrades platform is userfriendly then you would think power etrade pro is unbeatable. i opened an account with ameritrade because my daytraders account with etrade dropped below $25,000 and they suspended my account. i was using the command center for ameritrade because i got a mac and its horrible compared to poweretrade. its really not even a real time streaming application. after you do a trade the information about what your stock is doing doesnt even stream until you hit an update button at the top right of the page. your not supposed to have to hit an update page button everytime you do something. thats a disgrace. i cant even believe ameritrade has any customers with stuff like that. i cant wait to get back above 25 and switch back to etrade.

The platform I'm using with my Ameritrade account is QuoteTracker. Have you tried it? It's Mac compatible and free with an Ameritrade account. You'll find that the real time data works just fine (I've compared it to thinkorswim's real time data and they're in sync). I've had an E-Trade account several years ago and hated it and their customer service sucked. Things may have improved since then, but I'm happy with thinkorswim and Ameritrade (I still have a Schwab account too, but haven't used them much since my CyberTrader account was switched to them).

ToS's platform is java based and runs smoothly on OS X, Windows and Linux.

Sadly, the only part that does not run well under OS X, or linux that works in Windows is the built in CNBC video viewer....Though, I can easily live without it.
