LOS ANGELES (MarketWatch) -- Credit-card issuer Visa Inc. (V 84.10, +2.76, +3.39%) and Mead Johnson Nutrition Co. (MJN 43.30, +0.85, +2.00%) will be added to the S&P 500 index (SPX 1,106, +4.06, +0.37%) after the close of trading on Dec. 18, Standard & Poor's said in a statement late Friday. Visa will replace networking-equipment provider Ciena Corp. (CIEN 11.26, -0.24, -2.09%) . Mead Johnson Nutrition, a Glenview, Ill.-based pediatric nutrition company, will replace bond insurer MBIA Corp. (MBI 3.52, -0.15, -4.09%) . Bristol-Myers Squibb (BMY 25.86, +0.06, +0.23%) is splitting off its 83% holding in Mead Johnson Nutrition in an exchange offer that's expected to be completed on or about Dec. 18, pending final approvals, said S&P.

I am liking V at these levels after the 2 month consolidation phase. On a 1-month time frame, V has formed a "double bottom" and bounced off of it successfuly the third time. On a much broader time frame (6 months out), its holdoing its 13 DMA. In addittion you have the shorter MA start to converge, all while the longer oriented MA remain flat, signaling a modest push higher).

I'm thinking a push on V to $100 by Spring. On a break below $83 I would have to sell and wait until the dust settles.

Its movement is very similar to May/June, I'd buy some 80 puts if I had some cleared funds.

Ended up selling a short strangle 80/85, I think it was a safer option...

Mastercard (MA) and Visa (V) Slammed On Vote To Curb Card Fees, But Analyst Sees Only Minor Impact

May 14, 2010 8:57 AM EDT
Shares of Mastercard Incorporated (NYSE: MA) and Visa (NYSE: V) are under heavy pressure this morning following news Thursday evening that the Senate voted in favor of Senator Durbin's interchange amendment which would impose new rules for restricting merchant-paid debit interchange fees as well as allowing merchants more freedoms to charge different prices based on payment type.

Shares of Mastercard are down 9% and Visa is down 8.5%.

Commenting on the news, analyst at Deutsche Bank said, "While the market will certainly view this as a big setback for interchange and is likely to pressure V/MA shares on Friday, we still think interchange fails to make it into the final compromise bill, given that key influential lawmakers in the House remain against it."

Even if it passes, the firm doesn't think the impact will be be large.

The firm continues to believe the stock look attractive on these headline pressures.

how low will she go from here?
Is now a good time to get in, just like how we sell into good news?

It could dip down to try $75.

Probably best to wait and see things behave at the Monday open

V looks very attactive at this level to buy. I hope you put a stop loss on shorting.

i think at this point its fairly valued, not to long nor short, V was already trading at a price that had factored in the future earning power and now Congress says its gonna put a cap on its earning power so estimated PE will have to be revised. Aside from that, there are many political risks involved in this one just like GS

Oh ugly..

-4%

Looking bad for Visa and Mastercard today, the sellers keep hitting the bids.
