Lowe's and American Forests Give Away One Million Trees for Earth Day
18 hours 41 minutes ago - BIZ via Comtex
BusinessWireLowe's is celebrating Earth Day in a big way this year -- one million trees big. On April 23, Lowe's, in partnership with American Forests, will give away one million tree saplings to customers during in-store Earth Day celebrations nationwide. When planted, these one million trees will eventually produce more than 260,000,000 pounds of oxygen annually, providing air for more than 670,000 people for one year.

Each tree will be bar-coded so customers can register their trees online at Lowes.com/earthday and see where other trees are being planted across the country. Customers will also be able to scan a 2D barcode on the tree bag from a mobile phone for instant access to tree facts and a short informational video on how to plant and care for the sapling. Lowe's and American Forests identified species for each region that can grow successfully in the climate conditions and terrain. The size of the sapling depends on the type of tree. Properly cared for over the years, customers will enjoy seeing their tree become a centerpiece of their landscape. The trees were grown by Jonsteen Nursery.

"Putting trees into the hands of our customers is a simple way to make a big difference on Earth Day. We hope that these trees will be a catalyst for our customers to seek out other simple ways to give back to the earth at home and in day-to-day life," said Kevin Measel, Lowe's vice president of nursery merchandising.

To plant a tree at home you will need a free, one-in-a-million tree from Lowe's, a container, soil, water and light. Once the tree is planted, just sit back, relax and watch it grow. Customers may even share their tree growing stories and progress on the community page of LowesCreativeIdeas.com.

Why plant trees? According to American Forests:

-- Planting trees makes cents. Planting trees strategically around your home can cut your air conditioning bills in half by providing windbreaks and shade.

-- Breathe in, breathe out. As trees grow, they naturally filter airborne pollutants like carbon monoxide, lower the air temperature and produce oxygen.

-- Pay your carbon debt. Planting just 30 Global ReLeaf trees will absorb the amount of carbon dioxide that is produced by the average American lifestyle each year.

-- Trees are beautiful! Plus, trees indigenous to the area are food sources and homes for birds and animals that depend on them for survival.

Trees are available while supplies last. In addition to the one million tree giveaway, Lowe's will host a special Earth Day Build and Grow clinic at 10 a.m. on April 23. Every Lowe's store nationwide will offer the Build and Grow clinic, which guides children through building a wooden birdhouse to take home. To sign-up for the Earth Day Build and Grow clinic at a local store, visit Lowes.com/BuildandGrow. Customers in select markets will also be able to meet with local utility companies at the store to learn about cutting energy costs at home.

For more information about Earth Day at Lowe's, visit Lowes.com/earthday.

Lowe's Offers 5% Off To Customers Paying With Store Credit Card
5 days 21 minutes ago - DJNF

DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

Lowe's Cos. (LOW) introduced on Friday a new incentive program giving customers paying with a store credit card a 5% discount on in-stock and special-order purchases.
The discount applies to purchases made both in stores and online.
The retailer has benefited of late from improving home-improvement demand after years of declines. Still, the company has seen sales pressured by uncertainty in the housing market and high unemployment.
Under the program, customers with single-receipt purchases of $299 or more can choose between the 5% discount and a special financing offer. The deals can't be combined, and the card carries no annual fee.

US EQUITIES WEEK AHEAD: Retail Earnings; April Housing Data
1 days 1 hours 52 minutes ago - DJNF

By John Kell
Of DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

NEW YORK -(Dow Jones)- A handful of retailers are scheduled to report their latest quarterly results next week, including the world's largest retailer, Wal-Mart Stores Inc. (WMT), and home-improvement retail chains Home Depot Inc. (HD) and Lowe's Cos. (LOW).

The U.S. government is scheduled to release multiple housing data reports for April. Home construction rebounded in March from the prior month's very low levels, although the market continues to struggle.
The Senate is expected to vote next week on a measure to take away some oil-company tax breaks, days after top oil executives defended the credits and deductions at a congressional hearing, saying a repeal would slow oil production in the U.S.

Lowe's Reports Earnings Dip, Cuts Forecast with Home Depot On-Deck
1 days 1 hours 26 minutes ago - MNV via Comtex
MarketNewsVideo.comLowe's (LOW) reported a slight dip in first quarter results today.

Earnings totaled $461 million, or $0.34 per share, compared to $489 million, or $0.34 per share, in last year's first quarter, when there were more shares outstanding.

The #2 home improvement retailer in the country said sales fell 1.6%, to $12.19 billion, on a 3.3% decline in same-store sales, which the company said was partly due to unfavorable weather and economic conditions.

Results missed analyst expectations.

Lowe's cut its full-year earnings forecast to $1.56 to $1.64 per share, down from a prior forecast of $1.60 to $1.72 per share.

Has a lot of support starting at ~22.5 all the way through 21 ish. However, looks to be forming a doji, and RSI is about to touch 20. Last time it hit 20, we had a 10% run up (although there was a corresponding cross on the MACD that doesn't look like we're going to get here). Tempted to get in now..and then if it goes down to support, maybe average down.
