well for the most part the expected sales are kind of already building up the price per share right now, but if they have better sales than projected it should provide a nice pop

I can assure you that sales slowed down because there were many HUGE titles that people were waiting for. Black Ops is one of those huge titles.

I don't know if Black Ops will beat expectations (which are set high), but IMO, this stock will rebound this winter. And I'll be right there with some calls.
Thanks, Activision. You're the best.

Did people think I was kidding about ATVI?

I should've gotten back in. Looks like Black Ops' release tomorrow wasn't fully priced in.

The way Activision shits out COD games, you'll have plenty of chances.

My self, I hate Activision as a company. Back when Battlefield BC2 was making ways on the demo I put bought some stock from EA and made a nice profit though.

But in stocks I guess a greedy company makes for great stock? eeeh.

Does anyone know when sales numbers are released for this? Calls look nice for this.

Activision Blizzard shares rise before game launch

By Liana B. Baker

NEW YORK, Nov 8 (Reuters) - Activision Blizzard Inc shares rose more than 5 percent on Monday, ahead of Tuesday's release of 'Call of Duty: Black Ops.'

U.S. pre-orders of the video game, the latest 'Call of Duty' installment, may have reached 3 million units, said Dan Ernst, a Hudson Square analyst. One-day global sales will likely surpass last year's 4.7 million units sold at the launch of the last version of the game, 'Modern Warfare 2,' according to Ernst's research note.

'Our take is that shares were up on the enthusiasm for the launch of Black Ops,' Ernst said.

Last week, Activision Blizzard said it does not expect 'Call of Duty: Black Ops,' to outperform last year's 'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.'

'Black Ops,' a gritty military-themed shooter game that is part of the 'Call of Duty' franchise, goes on sale at midnight on Nov 9 in the U.S.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Video game publisher Activision Blizzard Inc. posted better-than-expected results for the third quarter thanks to strong demand for its top games, but Wedbush Morgan removed its shares from its "best ideas list" because the company gave "no indication" that it is working on developing an online subscription plan for its "Call of Duty" franchise.

The analyst, Michael Pachter, said Activision should exceed the guidance it gave for the current quarter -- which was more cautious than Wall Street's estimates -- with "only modest performance from its new releases." He added the company does not need "Call of Duty: Black Ops" to set records in order to meet analysts' expectations for the quarter.

"Black Ops," the follow up to the record-shattering "Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2," goes on sale Tuesday. "Modern Warfare" set sales records not only for video games but for the whole entertainment industry when it launched a year ago. That game made $550 million in worldwide sales during its first five days. By January, it crossed the $1 billion mark.

Pachter kept an "Outperform" rating on Activision and a $16 target price. But he said he thinks it'll take several more months for an online subscription service for "Call of Duty." Such a service would be lucrative for Activision because it would help the company continue to make money from the packaged games it sells in stores months or even years after they go on sale. Nearly half of Activision's revenue comes from digital offerings, mainly online subscription services from its Blizzard business, which makes "World of Warcraft" and "StarCraft II."

Shares of Activision closed at $11.63 on Thursday and added 32 cents to $11.95 in premarket trading.

Call of Duty®: Black Ops Sets New Five Day Entertainment Industry Record Grossing More Than $650 Million Worldwide

Largest Entertainment Launch in History Establishes New Xbox® LIVE™ Record with 2.6 Million Unique Players in One Day
Call of Duty: Black Ops Was Best-Selling Video Game Launch of All Time on Amazon.com and at GameStop

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Nov. 18, 2010 /PRNewswire/ -- Activision Publishing, Inc. (Nasdaq: ATVI) announced today that Treyarch's Call of Duty®: Black Ops has shattered theatrical box office, book and video game sales records for five-day worldwide sell through in dollars. The game established an all-new five-day worldwide sell-through record of more than $650 million, exceeding Activision's previous five-day worldwide record of $550 million set by last year's Call of Duty: Modern Warfare® 2, according to internal Activision estimates.

"Call of Duty has become the first entertainment property in history to set five-day launch records for two consecutive years across all forms of entertainment," said Robert Kotick, CEO, Activision Blizzard. "The title's success illustrates the mass appeal of interactive entertainment as millions of consumers are choosing to play Call of Duty: Black Ops at unprecedented levels rather than engage in other forms of media. The number of people playing online and the number of hours they are playing demonstrates how online gaming has become a mainstream form of entertainment and certainly validates Activision Blizzard's leadership role in online entertainment."

"There are many reasons for the success of Black Ops, but first and foremost is the fact that our team at Treyarch delivered a truly awesome game, and in the process have established themselves as one of the most talented developers in the world," said Eric Hirshberg, CEO, Activision Publishing. "There are millions of people all over the world engaging in this community. It's our job to keep them coming back for more."

In addition to beating all previous first-and five-day box office, book and video game sell-through records, Call of Duty: Black Ops set two new records on Xbox® LIVE™.

According to Microsoft:

More than 5.9 million multiplayer hours were logged playing Call of Duty: Black Ops by end of launch day, November 9.
More than 2.6 million unique gamers played Call of Duty: Black Ops in one day on November 9.

"With a record breaking performance on Xbox LIVE, home to the world's largest Call of Duty gaming community, Call of Duty: Black Ops has already carved out its legacy as one of the biggest video games in history," said Don Mattrick, president of the interactive entertainment business at Microsoft. "We congratulate our partners at Activision and Treyarch and are proud to continue offering the best Call of Duty experience to our 25 million global Xbox LIVE members by launching all Call of Duty map packs first on Xbox 360."

The game also was a tremendous success on the PlayStation® 3 and the best-selling video game launch of all time on Amazon.com and at GameStop.

"Call of Duty: Black Ops has been an incredible success on PlayStation 3," said Jack Tretton, President and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment of America (SCEA). "Treyarch's latest efforts are driving unprecedented traffic to the PlayStation Network with the flagship online experience this holiday season."

"Call of Duty: Black Ops had the highest number of pre-orders of any video game to date," said Paul Raines, CEO, GameStop. "It went on to become our biggest video game launch ever, which bodes well for game sales as we enter the holidays."

Activision is excited about the performance of Call of Duty: Black Ops, but given that it is still very early in the holiday shopping season, the company remains cautiously optimistic.

Call of Duty: Black Ops is rated "M" (Mature) by the ESRB for Blood, Drug Reference, Intense Violence and Language. For additional information visit www.callofduty.com/blackops and also via Twitter @JD_2020.

Analysts are overwhelmingly bullish on Activision, with 22 rating its stock "buy" and just two ranking it "hold." None rate the stock "sell." A median price target of $14.53 suggests a 12-month return of 25%. RBC Capital Markets forecasts that the stock will appreciate 38% to $16. Deutsche Bank expects a rally of 30% to $15. The lowest price target comes from Piper Jaffray, which expects Activision's shares to rise a modest 12% to $13. Piper released a note this week in response to the monthly video-game report from researcher NPD.

Cataclysm release date is 120710.....

Anybody who owns a computer should have heard the term "WoW" or "World Of Warcraft" if you're in the age range of 5 years to 45 years old.

Expect this to be a big time block buster smashing records left and right. Not only that, but holiday season!

Expect this stock to climb a couple bucks. My guess, +5 bucks in the time frame of 3 months. Maybe even shorter.

Last WoW (World Of Warcraft) release was November of 2008. Before the release stock was just below 11.00. Four months after the release, stock was 18 bucks.

I'm not joking when I say expect this stock to skyrocket starting December 7th.

Best part is, stock right now is 11.68!

Just thought I'd bump this thread in case anybody was interested

Expansion.

WoW is their biggest cash crop, as people pay monthly fees and 60 for the game, lol

My brother has been playing this game for 3 years and he recently just added 2 of his friends to this WoW cult. With all this hype about ATVI lately I decided to look into it.

Here's a few things I found out from them in the past week.

In order to play Cataclysm you need all the previous games/expansions which cost $40 each I believe. There were 3 before this so 4 x $40. Monthly subscription is $15.

Here's what I found fascinating. In the game you can buy a mount that does absolutely NOTHING except it looks better than the other mounts. It costs $25. You would think... who buys these stupid things?

According to wow.com, the download queue as of 1:45 Pacific time was at 80,000. At $25 a pop, this means that this noble steed has generated sales of $2 million since its approximate debut at 9:30 this morning, or around $500,000 an hour.
My brothers friend have been playing 6 hours a day for the past 2-3 weeks and went from Lvl 1->70. So I thought once they hit the maximum level there wouldn't be anything left to do... right? People would get bored and just leave. Apparently not...

In this new expansion the whole WoW world changes drastically. It means even those that have already reached the highest level attainable are going to have a whole new world to play in. New quests and new items.

Blizzard really knows how to market crack and disguise it as a video game. This is just ONE of their video games.
