Unsettled cash

After I sell stock, Ameritrade keeps the money tied down with a status of Unsettled Cash. Once it is "settled", I then have my cash once again. How long does this typically take, and is this normal?

yes, and 3 days

It is normal it takes 3 business to settle the funds but if you have over 25000$ in your account you shouldn't have such a problem

SEC says that Settlement of a trade either purchase or buy must be done within 3 business days. Do not try to purchase with unsettled money either you will pay for it. I did alreay and lost about a grand of profit.

Getting a margin account is the solution, not having 25k in your account.
