Obviously Nate has to make the decision for himself, but since others are offering advice I'll add my .02...

If I had AAPL stock right now, I'd hold and forget about it until Jan 17th, earnings day for apple.  I'd ride the wave up, as they are expected to rock this earnings quarter, but probably sell before the actual announcement, since I expect it to fall a bit on the real news, as profits are taken.  Now, this is assuming the market doesn't dive due to bad news out of EU or elsewhere.  But consider that we're currently trending up in a mild "santa rally", then a few weeks later AAPL announces.  During those two weeks, it could certainly fall back, so I could see a case for selling early next week if it starts to fall below $400, then watching for an opportunity to buy it back cheaper around the $390's, in preparation for earnings.  I'm watching for an opp to get calls before earnings if the conditions look favorable.

Regarding mental stops, instead of automatic stop loss settings... if you have amazing discipline, that works.  If you're me, you need to set SOLID stops, not according to dollar amounts of loss, but using solid support/resist levels, then let them fire if hit.  Too many times my emotions kick in and I end up holding on to a losing position way too long, with painful results.  That's just me.

I don't think the pull back will set aapl back down to $380 but I definitely see $390 by Wednesday because I expect the markets to fall this upcoming week. What I would suggest to Nate is to go on his account and make a sell order for Monday at $400/1 if the stock is moving in a down direction. A red day on the markets means aapl won't stay above $400.

good to watch for that...or whatever the trend is from now til a day or 2 before...a very often occurance that it will do the opp aft reporting...not aapl itself but stocks in general at earnings time ....so if they are expected to 'rock' and they do it will likely be priced in already so a sell off will not be out of the ordinary...but yet you will hear people crying 'stupid stock...goes down after a great report'...even tho that is the way it goes more often than not rolleyes.gif

That's a problem because they'll see you and a thousand others sitting at resistance. A little dip below and you're out watching the price going north.

I hope cause I'm in at about 5.85. Never dreamed that would go up but I held knowing there's no way they can sustain that price. Right? laughing.gif

Yep, happened many times to me, I hate that.  I now use etrade contingent orders, which are invisible, but still vulnerable to those quick spikes up/down.  I'm working on my self-discipline, maybe I can handle mental stops one of these days.smile.gif

looking a lil further at their earnings and subsequent action but still somewhat on the surface i am seeing a likely turn down from here...by the looks of it i wouldnt even think it was a bad bet for someone to go short now even

Aww man. Maybe I will teach myself how to trade FOREX tomorrow and trade that on Monday since I can't stand the markets not being open. Eh well.

Regarding mu, I think it can see 7 before turning lower. Could make a case for up and down, but for now I'm leaning bullish. Atleast that's what the chart is telling me.
