yup, and i used my 3rd today, then couldnt resist making another trade, only to have it backfire. effing pissed because I had a 12 trade "winning" streak and would still have that. Now my only hope is no gap up tommorrow. i really need to close my browser once im out of trades until i get themback in that rolling period laughing.gif

Nicely played gang!

AAPL payed off nicely today, I got out a bit early but thats ok.

Ill be looking to start up on the SPY puts again if we wonder into the 1170-1180 range.

Im thinking we rally into Obama's speech, he says something about unicorns, we make a high, then sell off and finally go to test the Aug lows and new lows.

Is anybody dead-set on the bullish case of going back above 1250 or so very soon?

Ive read many books on options also but just can't seem to grasp it still.  I really need to just go thru the motions and do some options trades.  I wish someone on this board that is more knowledgeable would start a thread trading options real-time.  And really make it beginner friendly spelling out all the trades.   I would like to follow a thread like that and make the same exact trades.   Of course I would not risk alot at the beginning, but following thread like that trade for trade would really help me out.

What I'm doing right now that you can do as well is to use a practice account over at http://education.optionseducation.org/vts/. I'm trading stocks with real money but use a practice account for options trading since I'm still learning. Besides hedging with put/call options, my favourite strategy thus far is the long strangle on 3x ETFs like TZA because those move fast. I got the Sep 11 $46 calls and the Sep 11 $41 puts and the calls are up $7,750.00 while the puts are down ($4,950.00). The calls were already in the money on Friday but I left them over the weekend cause it's not real money laughing.gif

Give it a go, try out strategies and what if scenarios.

Stick to this board then for the time being, people often put (no pun intended) their options entries almost real time.

An easy way to close options trades without really closing is to make it as tight of a spread as you can.

Example, if you have a $50 call, sell the $51 call. You usually get about 90% of your money back and don't lose any time value overnight, most of the time you gain because the further out of the money leg has a higher theta.

If you own stock, for every 100 shares buy a put :)

Thanks everyone.

As I said in the AAPL thread, I was shocked how fast my account was moving by several hundred dollar swings by the minute (small beans for many of you I know). I don't think I truly appreciated the leverage of options until today. So just some advice before you get started; make strict guidelines for yourself, remember sometimes there isn't a good trade available, and don't put in more than you can afford to lose.

althought they have been putting out alot of positive/pumps stories today too...just to cover all bases lol

I bet you'd be surprised how disconnected the U.S. stockmarket is from the overall problems Americans face.

There is good reason for it. The companies in the Dow Jones and many others derive 60% of their revenue abroad and are making tons of money in emerging markets.

Walmart and McDonalds earnings are so predictable that analysts can predict it to the penny most of the time.

What is important to look at is the amount of money in the world. Debt makes it even better because thats extra leverage.
