If ES does not encounter headwinds at 1166-1168 then Dow should finish up over 400 for sure. Today is the first day where I have felt able to look at price and volume and then watch the market do what it is supposed to do, on short intraday timeframes, since a few weeks ago. I'd say a sense of normalcy is returning but then again, Dow 400 either way every day doesn't quite fit that bill. As ZH says, this must be "price stability."

New Market Rules: Dow must move 300+ points in either direction, each day.

Whats missing here is leadership from the tech leaders, the market needs to get AAPL. GOOG, AMZN and friends over yesterdays highs and get the Nasdaq going.

If no big funds are going to commit, this rally will fizzle.

AAPL over 375 is the trigger IMO, once the chase is on, the bull parade will come out on CNBC.

CSCO up 16% isn't enough for you?!  They... used... to be a tech leader....

Death crosses about to happen in all majors but Dow.

IWM .03 away
SPY .10
QQQ .20
IYT .60

AAPL about to resolve the battle between an ascending triangle with mid 374 breakout and a possible bear flag forming on longer timeframes (1 hr to 4 hr).

CSCO has not been a leader since 2010:

CSCO chart

When I reference market leaders, its stocks that everybody wants and is willing to buy on any dip.

PCLN, AMZN, YOKU, BIDU etc

Anyone know the ratios right now on call/put volume?

yup. i 100% agree mjoke! absolutely nothing has changed from last week. i love how all of these analysts are coming on the tube *cough* doug kass *cough* to declare the end of the downtrend, and a bottom being put in, blah blah blah. so we get a one day bounce and all the sudden we're back on the bull run to new highs? pipe the f down! my gawd. let's get some follow through before we get all giddy about this market again. we still have a loooooooooooong ways to go before we can repair all of the technical damage that was done these past few weeks. getting back above 1170 and closing there would be a good start. i don't see it happening, but let's see us rally for more than a damn day before we start shouting "bottom"!!!. 'till then, this is all just an oversold dead cat bounce. and as sje said, this rally will fizzle.

IMO cash needs 1175, or 1170 on ES, a marginal high means nothing and even 5 points won't mean much. If this rally can't sustain itself to get over 1200 by end of tomorrow, I'm not impressed. I was just sitting there thinking to myself... Dow up 375... meh, so what? When is the last time we could say that, before I guess Tuesday of this week... Oct '08?
