SMKG bullish trend

The MACD for SMKG currently indicates a strong bullish signal for two reasons. First, the MACD is above the signal line, a 9day moving average. Second, the MACD is above 0 which implies that the underlying moving averages are trending higher.

industry discussion news on debit card market

Debating the Future of Debit Cards a from pymnt news source

We asked: Will reduction in interchange fees put a damper on the growth of debit cards?
"Logic suggests no. But each market is obviously different and card issuers and acquirers will reevaluate their business model if their income or costs concerning one product line changes significantly.

In the Australian market, there has been a growth in scheme debit cards. Occurring post the RBA intervention into interchange. What has motivated the banks to shift their well established and high volume proprietary debit card base to scheme debit. Probably a number of factors but lower interchange on credit must have had an influence." - Peter
--
"...Debit cards are a function of the current economy, folks are using debit for budgeting purposes, younger demographics tend to use debit versus credit, payroll, unemployment and other benefits are now routinely loaded on prepaid and reloadable debit cards. Finally the utility of the debit card (basically taking the place of checks for the unbanked) has created another market. As a retailer my biggest complaint is that Visa and MC want you to "honor" all cards. However a prepaid card such as Green Dot and others don't require a credit check. Very problematic for retailers that offer installment plans." - Mark Tabak
--
"Most earthlings do not have/want/need a bank account. Most earthlings wont qualify for credit. Most earthlings need to pay. As earth is decreasing it's dependency on cash, debit will continue to grow.

Besides consumers, Merchants are key to the growth of debit. Merchants pay for interchange. Merchants accept credit cards since they enable guaranteed payment for credit sales, and thus increase sales. Merchants accept debit cards since it's cheaper than cash. When debit interchange become more expensive than cash, merchants will seriously start resisting debit, as there is no benefit to them other than consumer convenience.

Merchants will in general complain when interchange increases, as reduces their margins, however in general interchange increases causes inflation. Merchants will in general welcome interchange decreases, however this will seldom lead to deflation...

Credit and debit should not be viewed as two competing forces, rather as "paying with your own money" or "paying with the banks money". As a consumer I use both debit and credit in wide range of situations for a wide range of different reasons.

That being said : When a merchant does not accept my credit card, I pay with my debit card. When a merchant does not accept my debit card, I pay with my credit card. When a merchant does not accept any of my cards, I pay using cash..." -- Wynand
--
"Debit cards will continue to grow. No bank will refuse to offer debit cards - no merchant will refuse to accept debit cards. The global market has reached critical mass with debit cards - they are here to stay and debit products are a cornerstone of the retail banking world. Consumers expect them to be accepted and they expect them to be offered at low to no cost. Changes to interchange fee structures will not directly impact consumer adoption of debit cards.

However, changes to interchange fee structures will change the ways in which consumers USE debit cards - so, yes, an indirect impact is possible. If issuers need to counter-balance a reduction in one revenue stream by charging fees for this or that transaction type, consumers will respond by adjusting usage patterns. Some consumers may opt for increasing usage of cash or check/cheque, while others move towards credit card usage. In the US, I would expect to see increases in PIN-debit purchases if "signature" (dual-message) debit becomes subject to fees, since PIN-debit fee structures are not likely to change dramatically. In fact, the smarter banks in the US will attempt to increase PIN POS activity within their card base, rather than start charging fees on the cards in general or on signature debit transactions.

Is there anyone out there that will stop using a debit card fully and completely if they are charged nominal fees? I personally could not imagine cutting up my debit card and walking into a bank branch to get cash or make a deposit or transfer funds between current/DDA and savings accounts, or going back to writing checks at the checkout lines in big stores - let alone handing large amounts of cash. I would however, limit my usages to ATM activity, and increase usage of my credit card.

(Another theme you may see through these answers is that there is a country/cultural component to the answers one may give to this question. Wynand, who posted a reploy in this thread, and I have discussed this previously to a great extent - as we live on different continents)" - Jim Schlegel
--
"Absolutely agree that interchange is transparent to the consumer, however let me take a counter viewpoint just for fun!. Today, other than non-issuing bank ATM fees, most issuers/FI's do not charge any fees to their customers for debit card usage. It is not out of the realm of possibility that banks may begin charging customers fees for debit card usage to make up for lost interchange revenue. It could start with setting a debit purchase threshold on a checking account per month and charging say 10 cents for every debit transaction over 10 a month. However, unless this became a widespread practice, consumers would have the option to change banks. If this happens it may have an impact on the growth of debit." - Ben

San Antonio, Tx., Aug 30, 2010 (M2 PRESSWIRE via COMTEX) --
Industry experts estimate the Prepaid Debit Card market will grow by 20% per annum to a record $400Billion by 2017 in the USA. SmartCard Marketing is an established company in the Prepaid Debit Card segment with 30 years of management and industry experience with a fully deployable Card Management & E-wallet platform marketed under the Velocitymoney trade name and Velocitymoney.com site to Financial Institutions, Merchant Banks, Businesses and Consumers.

SmartCard Marketing Systems Inc. (PINKSHEETS: SMKG | PowerRating) CEO Massimo Barone stated "We have successfully created a niche opportunity for our company in the Prepaid Debit Card market with the ability to implement and deploy card programs within a minimal time frame, which has been our core strategy. Our primary objective is to capture the shift from Credit facilitated cards which has been a traditional financial model for most banks to underwrite credit- to a shift worldwide toward Prepaid Debit Cards. The significance of developing an International Portfolio will allow us to capitalize on future industry consolidation from major banks when the Financial Industry has found its footing again. We feel strong that a portfolio of world class card programs and a solid active base of customers will lead to an eventual merger or acquisition."
