Ford no longer junk at Fitch as stock returns to investment grade

alan-mulally-at-stock-exchange.jpg

No doubt Ford has seen the light shining at the end of its turnaround plan for a while, but now The Blue Oval is getting so close to the daylight it might even be able to smell the fresh air. By the end of 2005, Ford stock was rated so low by the three major ratings agencies that it was floating in the cistern below the basement of junk status. After Mulally came onboard, the company put up everything to get the money to work his plan, from the company logo to its real estate. In order to get it back, two of the three agencies need to rate Ford stock as investment grade, and one, Fitch, has just done so.

Fitch has certified Ford stock as BBB-, the first investment-grade level, and issued a stable outlook for the company and its finance arm. Ford remains just one step below investment worthy with both Standard & Poor's and Moody's, but with "a solid Q1" predicted by by Citigroup and Morgan Stanley analysts (they expect earnings to match Q1 2011 in spite of European and Asia-Pacific sales doldrums), the final turn might not be far away.

When it does, Ford will have achieved what it laid out as Job One for 2012. As well as getting its assets out of hock, Dearborn will also greatly reduce its borrowing costs. Ford's head of investor relations, Michael Seneski, vowed in December that Ford would return to investors' good graces by showing "authoritative and highly credible insight into our automotive business and Ford Credit." We're of the opinion that an increasing flow of good products haven't hurt, either.

F - Out of the range.

Stock traded in the range a few times. Then support line was broke. Now we are testing this support line as a resistance, I think we are go to the $10.50.

ford is trading at such a low multiple at just over 2 X's, it seems real cheap here in the low 10's

good buy for long term....

put a tight stop loss if it falls off the cliff...should be good

im already stuck being long on this one, just looking to average down soon, but was waiting to see if 9.5 hits...... although i might get in around 10, but def watching for now. im not 100% yet.

I have been long on this for a long time.  I am picking some up tomorrow but deppending on how the news is.  its pretty easy these days to see what way the market is going to go and ford loves moving with the market.  but screw it even if it does go lower I will probabley just pick up more.  this is the only stock I am stuck with long and one day this stock will be worth more.  hopefully.

Price for F looks just about darn near cheap.  Would like to go all in for the long haul, their new Fusion looks like a major hit.  I'm afraid of europe though as Ford is heavily invested in it.  How should I play this?

Why go all in at once?  Buy a qtr or a third of what you are planning to buy.  If it drops and you still feel confident you can buy some more.

Yeah I never go all in on one stock, buy a few and see what the price does, typically when I do that it kind of sets a borderline of where I want to buy in.

I agree Ford is going to produce great results, with the new Fusion and even the new Focus ST that just went on pre order. As long as they do not run into any bugs with the eco boast engine I think it will sell great and is priced to.

I missed on my purchase pricethis morning and was to late and was to up already in premarket.  might buy a few more tomorrow and see what happens but with any bad news about anything could send it back down but ford is on the right path and with no major screw ups we will all be good with this one

S&P downgrades Fords credit line ratings. Couple that with the steep trajectory of the white line on the chart below,I would think that this is a good short term short canadate.

im ok, with short term drop. between that, europe, and the economy there might be a good time to buy more at a lower cost to average down

Ford Shares Fall on Weak International Outlook
20 hours 28 minutes ago - Dow Jones News

Ford Motor Co. (F) said late Thursday that it sees second-quarter operational losses in its international divisions tripling from those in the first quarter.
In a Securities and Exchange Commission filing, Ford said it sees competitive and pricing pressures as well as weakening currencies in South America, a situation in Europe that has "deteriorated significantly" because of economic woes and low consumer demand, and growing investment and growth costs in Asia Pacific and Africa.
In the first quarter, Ford reported operational losses of $190 million for the regions.
The auto maker said it still expects to post a profit for the second quarter because of strength in its North American unit and financial division.
