XOM - Exxon Mobil - Page 11

I'm glad to see XOM moving higher without the DOW.

Just a heads up, there's going to be heavy resistance between 69.70-70.00 with the 20sma and the 200sma. If we can break those, 72 is in sight.

XOM showing a little strength here with the DOW making fresh lows, oil lower, and XOM basically flat on the day.

Here's some updated analysis and where we're at:

I took notice that on the last two earnings, with 23 days left (where we are), XOM has ran 6% and 8%, respectively. IF we rally into earnings, even an average of those runs (7%) will put us in the 74.25 range. There is no technical support or resistance for us at this level, but it's just something I've noticed from the past two earnings.

Also notice that the MACD has made a bullish cross up and has a long way to go before it gets to zero, and the histogram posted an first green bar in over a month! I'm hoping this signals buyers for an upcoming swing up.

We have bullish volume to support both today and yesterday, with volume on the rise.

Areas of resistance will be the 20, 200sma, 38%fib @ 71.70, and possibly those trough lows at 71 from a month+ ago.

Great analysis Chris.

Todays volume really gave me some comfort on this, especially closing so close to the HOD and considering XOM had a downgrade yesterday AM.

Looks good for a little more green tomorrow. I don't think oil inventories are going to have any major effect on XOM, but i'm in this from a purely technical standpoint anyways. After the last major sell off i think any bad news is probably baked in the current price.

Xom did alright today, it lagged other oil majors. Usually i will play COP options if I want oil exposure but the channel XOM was in was just too nice. As siri mentioned I bought Febs because XOM tends to move pretty slow, due to that the IV is pretty low so the options arent too overpriced..

the greater 69 break could really send her, even if the sector isnt there xom will turn into a leader, dont mark my words but thats when it really shines

hows that stock at 68?

This thing probably won't move much til the Jan options expiration and then it will fly. Of course my Jan options will expire worthless.

Sure did, it was heading there too.. oh well my Febs have lots of time

Still in my febs as well. It doesn't really matter what oil does right now for me since I think most people are looking at 1Q earnings already with higher priced oil and a very slumped pps. Of course higher oil throughout the run would help tremendously, but I don't think it's essential at the moment. XOM is doing all the right things technically, so I will stick around a little longer barring any big drop.

Looks like it's recovering fine. Wasn't looking at much else today so time for an early lunch

nice trade fellas.
sure would be a nice sign to see 70+ close today. i think we might see 71.50-72 by jan expiration. i have jan and feb calls so it would work out good

Oil above 82 should get it there.

Wow, HUGE spike in oil just now! All the indexes including XOM are in ascending triangles on the day; look for a breakout to the upside.
