Apple’s updates to Siri include an in-car solution called “Eyes Free,” the iPhone maker announced June 11, during the opening day of its Worldwide Developers Conference. Apple already has several high-end carmakers lined up to offer this Siri in the dashboard.
Land Rover/Jaguar, BMW, GM, Mercedes, Audi, Toyota, Chrysler and Honda are all on board with a commitment to integrate the solution—which will include a button on the steering wheel or in the dashboard to instantly connect with Siri—within just 12 months.
Because Nuance isn't for sale. The only part of Nuance Apple would want would be their mobility group (the group that does Siri, the Dragon TV for all the Smart TV's, Dragon Drive for all the Smart cars, OnStar, etc.), and Nuance's big money will never give that up before it's matured. I read somewhere the other day that they've got a 3 year projection of that one part of the company alone generating 5 billion in revenue annually, and I think it's entirely possible they pull it off. That means it'd be bigger than Facebook. That would create a spun-off market cap of that one division of almost 100 billion given the sector it's in.
There's also the little fact that it's not much of a secret anymore that Nuance has been getting quite cozy with Samsung of late, and even IF NUAN were to spin off that division and sell it, it's likely Samsung would try to outbid almost anybody for it since not only are all of their upcoming phones dependent on the technology, so are their televisions, refrigerators, coffee machines, ovens, microwaves, tablets, etc.
....and this is why I can't play Apple, even if I thought it was going to blow up again. Their "big news" about Siri going into cars has lots more to do with NUAN than it does AAPL, since NUAN gets almost all of that revenue, and their new laptop is basically just an incremental improvement over the old one, which is only going to initially appeal to those who make it their life goal to own the latest Apple product at all times. There's nothing underneath it to fuel any real growth, it's just more analyst air that could push it up and then watch it fall.
