Aapl's chart shows the risk outweighs the reward heading into earnings tonight. The beauty of being an individual investor is that you can enter and exit a position with ease and limited to no damage to the stock. There are certainly institutions that would prefer not being in the stock at the close today because of the risk but are unable to completely exit because of the damage that would result as they traded their massive quanitity of shares.
Volumes relatively weak compared to the Avg and especially since it's earnings time. I guess those who bought don't want to sell and those who are on the sidelines are too scared to pick a side.
