Both Microsoft and LG-Nortel will market the new IP desktop phone to Microsoft customers worldwide as well as through LG-Nortel's global distribution network of operators and channel partners.
LG-Nortel previously announced a strategic relationship with Microsoft in May 2006 when the two companies signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for broad range collaboration in VoIP, including the joint development and marketing of Windows CE-based IP terminals and the new Windows CE 6 videophone.

The Safe Harbor was so long I coundn't post...if you want to read it, you'll have to search the wires...
Pride, an alternative telecommunications services provider in West Siberia, has launched 'triple play' voice, video and multimedia services in Nizhnevartovsk City at ten times the speed of previous technologies using a Nortel(x) (NYSE/TSX: NT) solution. The newly deployed Metro Ethernet network for Pride is also making available services such as IPTV with video on demand; VoIP; and high-speed Internet access.
For homes in Nizhnevartovsk (population 249,000) this is the first time that such high-speed Internet services have been offered. The Pride 'Ethernet to the Home' service offers speeds up to 100 Mbps for residential and business subscribers.
Pride plans to use its new high-speed communication capabilities to build a subscriber base of at least 30 percent of Nizhnevartovsk's population by the end of 2006. Future plans involve extending the network and offering triple play services in other areas of West Siberia such as the city of Tyumen which has a population of over 538,000.
"Pride selected Nortel because its technology helped us create a single network infrastructure for delivering reliable and high-quality voice, video and data services that sharpen our competitive edge in an important Russian regional market," said Viktor Lukashev, general manager Pride LLC. "The built- in flexibility for network expansion also allows us to easily and cost- effectively introduce services and expand the Pride subscriber base across the Khanty-Mansiysk and Tyumen regions of West Siberia."
"Pride sets a good example for how to maintain a competitive edge in Russia's regional telecommunications space using a Nortel Metro Ethernet solution. The solution has transformed Pride's existing network to deliver faster and more efficient new services," said Sorin Lupu, president, Eastern region, Nortel EMEA. "The Nortel high availability pledge for Metro Ethernet networks also reassured Pride that these new services can be delivered with confidence."
Pride's Metro Ethernet network was sold and integrated with the support of Nortel's Moscow-based Sales Partner Step Logic. Nortel and Step Logic have worked together in the Russian market since the mid-1990s. "The Pride triple play network is the latest successful result in our ongoing collaboration with Nortel in Russia," said Andrey Kudriavtsev, general manager, Step Logic.
The Pride triple play network is based on Nortel's Metro Ethernet portfolio, including the Metro Ethernet Routing Switch 8600 and the Metro Ethernet Service Unit 1800 which provides a cost-effective platform purpose- built for the edge of provider networks.

Nortel Outlines Action Plan to Improve Operating Margins and Business Performance
Nortel Outlines Action Plan to Improve Operating Margins and Business PerformanceTuesday June 27, 7:00 am ET
Mix of Cost Reduction Strategies and New Business Initiatives to Increase Competitiveness
TORONTO, June 27 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ - In connection with its previously announced Business Transformation plan to increase competitiveness by improving operating margins and overall business performance, Nortel(x) (NYSE/TSX: NT) today announced significant changes to its North American pension programs as well as a net reduction of approximately 1,100 positions globally. Nortel also announced a series of new initiatives to create a world-class Operations organization. Today's announcement is the latest in a series of actions Nortel is taking to achieve a targeted operating-margin expansion in excess of US$1.5 billion in 2008.
"I am confident in the progress we are making in turning around Nortel and recreating a great company," said Mike Zafirovski, Nortel president and CEO. "In the past few months we've taken important steps, some with near-term impact, and others with longer-term benefits, toward transforming our operations to be more efficient and customer-focused. Today's announcements continue our efforts to increase competitiveness, better manage our costs, and secure the resources to fuel Nortel's innovation."
Key Company actions announced today include:
- Pension Plan: changes to control costs and align with
industry-benchmarked companies. These changes are expected to
result in an estimated annual reduction of US$100 million in
pension expense starting in 2008 and savings of more than
US$400 million in cash by the year 2012. This will reduce the
Company's unfunded pension liability deficit by approximately
US$400 million.
- Global Operations: initiatives designed to create a world-class
Operations organization to speed customer responsiveness and to
instill process excellence while reducing costs.
- Organizational Simplification: flatten the organization and shift
to a culture marked by agility and accountability.
The latter two actions result in a reduction of approximately 1,900 positions globally and the creation of approximately 800 new positions in Operations Centers of Excellence. Total cost, both the charge to the income statement and cash, for the Global Operations restructuring and the organizational simplification, is estimated to be approximately US$100 million over the next two years, of which approximately US$35 million of the charge to the income statement is expected to be taken in the second quarter of 2006. The cash cost is expected to be incurred equally over a two-year period. Annual savings from these actions is targeted to be approximately US$100 million in 2007 and approximately US$175 million by 2008.

The sad part about nortel, is they sell things that pretty much nobody else has, even if you are actively looking to get it from someone else because you don't like them... and they still have a bad rep.
If you are running dark fiber from one site to another and you want to put multiple types of traffic on it, they are the only ones that sell the equipment to do it. Called a "Dense Waveform MultiPlexer".... can put multiple singles over a singe pair of fiber cables. we're getting it at the office to build a site link between two sites and nortel is the only one who makes it.
crazy... not that anyone cares. just some random info.

Nortel shares plunge on outlook cut
Wednesday September 17, 12:50 pm ET
Nortel Networks stock tumbles to lowest level in decades after outlook is cut
TORONTO (AP) -- The stock of Nortel Networks Corp. stock tumbled Wednesday to a multi-decade low after it slashed its business outlook and said it plans another round of cutbacks in the face of a struggling economy.
North America's biggest maker of telecommunications equipment saw its U.S.-listed shares fall $2.35, or 44.3 percent, to $2.95 in midday trading. Earlier, the stock went as low as $2.86, the lowest level since at least the early 1980s.
The Toronto-headquartered company said Wednesday morning that it now expects revenue this year to be 2 percent to 4 percent lower than last year's. It had previously forecast growth in the low single digits.
"It is clear that the business environment in which we operate requires additional immediate and decisive actions," Chief Executive Mike Zafirovski said in a statement.
Zafirovski said factors such as competitive pressures and the potential for further reduced spending are ravaging the company.
Nortel also said revenue in the current quarter is being hampered by foreign exchange fluctuations and some product-delivery delays into the fourth quarter.
The company is conducting a "comprehensive review" of its business, which will include further restructuring and other cost-reduction initiatives, it said.
Nortel also intends to seek a buyer for its metro ethernet networks segment, described as "a premium asset with a highly differentiated offering."
Nortel, which keeps its accounts in U.S. dollars, now projects revenue in the current third quarter at $2.3 billion, down 14 percent from a year ago.
The company lost $113 million in the second quarter on revenue of $2.62 billion, which was down from a top line of $2.76 billion in the first quarter.
Morgan Keegan analyst Simon Leopold said Nortel's forecast did not come as a surprise, given that U.S. carriers are reining in their infrastructure spending. At UBS, analyst Nikos Theodosopoulos kept his "Neutral" rating and $6 price target, based on the estimate of next year's earnings at 50 cents per share.
The stocks of Nortel's competitors were also hit by the news. Alcatel-Lucent was down 43 cents, or 8.7 percent, to $4.52 and Ciena Corp. fell 96 cents, or 8.6 percent, to $10.27.
