Africa Wages War on Plastic Bags

Motivated by a climate of widespread environmental devastation, Africa has boldly moved to initiate a continent-wide ban plastic bags in an effort to eliminate the billions of throw-away sacs that are marring its cities and landscapes (San Francisco, Melbourne and other cities have already banned them altogether). It’s no surprise that what was once viewed as a step towards modernization has instead created widespread problems for rural and urban communities that initially embraced the cheaply manufactured plastic bag in lieu of totes made of indigenous materials and biodegradables.

...South Africa once produced 7 billion bags a year. They have subsequently imposed a ban on bags thinner than 30 microns, a thickness so flimsy that one’s finger can easily poke through...

Hopefully we will see some action on this in 2008, it would be nice to finally see a big contract. Happy New Year Everybody!

These trays are being utilized to package the vast majority of fresh product (Meat, Fish, Poultry and fresh produce) currently packed for bulk and individual sale. Rigid trays are currently manufactured with the use of a Foamed Polystyrene.

The most significant aspect of the development in using the Nor-x additive to manufacture a "degradable" Polypropylene tray is that Diamant will be the industry leader in that they will be the exclusive supplier in North America to the only cost effective degradable solution for Polypropylene plastic.

The only competitive degradable tray currently being distributed consists only of organic fiber-based trays, which are also biodegradable, however the cost is considerably higher. With approximately 30 billion trays being manufactured in North America this represents a very sizable market for our technology. There are numerous Rigid tray manufacturers in the United States and Canada, currently making standard non degradable trays that can be contracted to produce "Eco Friendly" Polypropylene Trays using the Nor-X Additive.

Additionally many foods items utilize Foamed polystyrene (Styrofoam) packaged products. Styrofoam represents one of the packaging industry's toughest environmentally challenging products, due to its enormous sustaining longevity, which consequently results in a negative impact on our environment. Although there have been some developments using chemical degradation of Polystyrene materials (Styrofoam trays), there is still exists the problem of a chemical byproduct that will remain behind, which is a noxious deposit know as a "benzene ring." This noxious chemical still exists after the polystyrene (Styrofoam trays) completes its "degradation process."
