There have been a lot of times where companies say they are walking away from any potential deals, only to offer more money the next week.
It is probably in Toshiba's interest to buy it right now with the Yen so strong, the Korean Won is pretty weak.
Toshiba already has promised Sandisk 1 billion, so by offering like 7 billion total, they can totally stick it to Samsung.
Samsung will need Sandisk to stay the biggest NAND producer. They need it for TV's, computers, cell phones, mp3 players, deals with Apple etc.
I think Sandisk needs to pressure Toshiba to make a bid, in the end Toshiba makes money when they negotiate what happens to their 1 billion dollar stake, which will probably be compensated handsomely by Samsung.
Samsung needs to get on the ball asap if they don't want to pay royalties forever, especially when x4 becomes the standard for everything needing a lot of space.
