Is there a chance that the stock split will affect the volitility of this weeks earnings report?

Google's second-quarter earnings are out!

We're live-blogging the earnings conference call below.

Google beat on earnings, but missed Wall Street revenue expectations.

Google delivered EPS of $10.12 and $12.21 billion in consolidated revenue.

If you take out traffic acquisition and revenue from Motorola, Google brought in $8.36 billion — a miss from what Wall Street analysts expected.

Traffic acquisition costs were $2.6 billion for the second quarter of 2012.

The stock is up more than 2 percent in extended trading.

Some estimates — including that of J.P. Morgan's Doug Anmuth — show the inclusion of Motorola Mobility increasing revenue, but not meaningfully impacting earnings. Expect more on Motorola during the call.

We should also hear a few bits about the reception of the Nexus 7 tablet, Google's home-made 7-inch tablet that's going up against the Kindle Fire. Early reviews of the Nexus 7 were very positive.

Another thing to note: CEO Larry Page said he will not be on the call because of a voice condition.

Here are the estimates from Wall Street analysts:

  • Q2 EPS: $10.04
  • Q2 Revenue: $8.41 billion
  • Q3 EPS Guidance: $10.76
  • Q3 Revenue Guidance: $9 billion

Yeah they announce it along with last earnings in April I believe, and approved by shareholders in June.

I haven't been following or read much into it, but from what i understand it's a 2 for 1 split from Class A to Class C. Essentially 2 for 1 split, and loss of voting power for share holders.

lol if no sarcasm i'm surprised u out of everyone didn't know this

ahhh no wonder i forgot.. its a retarded split.

These shares will be distributed via a stock dividend to all existing stockholders: the owner of each existing share will receive one new share of the non-voting stock, giving investors twice the number of shares they had before. It’s effectively a two-for-one stock split—something many of our investors have long asked us for. These non-voting shares will be available for corporate uses, like equity-based employee compensation, that might otherwise dilute our governance structure.

I see people started soaking up the squishable supply that was there. I doubt anyone would actually admit that they purchased one, but did anyone? I haven't been checking lately throughout the weeks to see if the squishable was restocked in between the two time points.. Nice job though who ever got a squishable. I don't have one, but hopefully one day I get one. The recent rally is probably attributed to the increased squish sales.. eh..

I just need to give my review of the Google Nexus 7 tablet here...

I flew across from the West coast, Denver, Chicago to Raleigh yesterday.

3 stops, 1 canceled flight and two lay overs. No inboard entertainment on any of those crappy planes, not even a bag of peanuts.

This tablet was playing the entire season of Breaking Bad and the battery held up the whole way!

Buttery smooth performance, crispy bright screen, Google really did well with this one.

I am hoping can consolidate for a couple of days, if it can start to attack the opening area of 11/7/07 741.13 and start to squeeze those shorts I think we can squeeze up to those all time highs, on pretty freaking good volume, volume on last Friday was 6.3M shares, and volume of ATH on 11/7/07 was 8.2M shares, the squeezes could be mind numbing.

My play may be a 745/750 October or November call Spread. I may do a 745/755 need to make up my mind. But that is just me looking at the daily/weekly/monthly charts.

I'm looking for GOOG to consolidate/pullback this week before a move higher, but I want to address the short squeeze thought. GOOG short float is only about 1.5%, less than 4 million shares short. That's not a lot considering the volume has been over 3M for the past few days.

Agreed, just saying that there could be a few million shares up there that could make it fun to watch. But agree with you 100% just saying that it could be fun to watch.

Ohh with a float of 260.9M shares that would be 4.12M :) Just messin with you

One day eventually I will get my "cheap" goog, or magical things cure global problems / national debt and this just gets pushed to the moon by day traders. All I can do is be patient?

I will admit though I should have gotten in at 560.... I missed the bottom and I thought to myself okay i will just get in soon on a small support test for optimum entry, but somehow I was too spread out... probably way too focused on es.
I love this stock for a lot of reasons though, it trades beautifully. It just wouldn't be right for me to chase this thing though. From last week or what not... of course this morning at like 6 am citi raises a price target... I am raising my pt to the moon using the recommended 125 entry.. its a sad and happy day

im out of my whopping 10 shares of google.  $200/share is good enough for me.  I love the innovation of this company, their products are second to none and constantly cutting edge.
