The people running Research In Motion see greater risk in their future.
The Toronto Globe and Mail reports that RIM's latest regulatory filing lists 36 pages of risk factors. That's 10 pages more than last year's filing contained.
The newspaper analyzed the company's annual information form (AIF), which is required by Canadian regulatory authorities. RIM, the manufacturer of the BlackBerry, is based in Waterloo, Ont.
"What’s striking is how the risk factors and tone have changed from last year’s AIF to this version," writes Sean Silcoff in the Globe and Mail. "The document gives a solid indication that the people running RIM are much less sure of themselves than in the past. Rather than reading like a dismissive boilerplate, the latest set of risk factors reads more like a confessional by a fallen giant."
RIM is now warning that its "ability to maintain or increase its cash balance could be adversely affected by its ability to offer competitive products and services in a timely manner at competitive prices."
The company has been losing market share to Apple Inc. over the past two years, with a corresponding decline in stock price.
--- watch it go up now lol
