Stock Market Today : July 2nd - 6th - Page 13

BAC, JPM, C and MS ugly today.

Everybody seems to forget that this market is not going anywhere without the financial stocks.

Today is a head scratcher  for sure, I would not be confident about long positions with internals like this.

I think banks are telling us the real story.. its odd that momo names like aapl goog pcln are ripping while other risk on trades are getting killed i.e. banks

Im giving this S&P move another chance at 1380, but if gets there, Ill start building short positions.

With banks this week, its only a matter of time before the bulls take the hint.

Last month's was bad and thrashed the markets. They except almost as bad this time, but Goldman just put something out saying they increased their expectation based on other recent reports on the economy.

Its one of the biggest market moving reports so a lot of people will be paying attention to it.

I've been reading that Jobs should be up...but how much does that affect the market in comparison with everything else?

I was in on APPL at $590 so I'm definitely ahead...but wouldn't mind a small gamble on UVXY.

Hows the average investor feeling about tomorrow? I want to see if I can make a little gain and get out if tomorrow turns out to be shitty...just wondering what the average investor expects for tomorrow?

I'm hopeful about the jobs number, however, so are most people which minimizes the impact of any good report and maximizes the impact of any bad report. I don't think the QE3 hopes are going to boost stocks if the number is bad, but it might be a cushion to keep stocks from falling much. Basically, tomorrow could be up, down, or flat - but definitely one of those three. I'm almost certain of it!

What time will they be released at? I'm sure there's A LOT of trading right around then, right?

The first post of this thread has a calendar from Bloomberg with all the dates and times for releases of the week. I refer back to it often.

When they speak in public they are, but they have to be doing the opposite or how do they survive? Several months back they said stocks were the best investment out there - then our rally had this big pullback. Then a few weeks ago they said they had turned short - the next day we start rallying again. If they are upping forecasts and getting bullish, I get worried.

Thanks, checking it now.

Do you think VIX (UVXY or TVIX) will have any sort of big swings in either direction do to this?

Or do these things no affect one another? Or if they do is it minimal?

The same Goldman that said S&P 1400 represented the buying opportunity of a generation.

We are onto your game Goldman! suspicious.gif

They are a "bank" now, so they shouldn't be doing evil things such as betting everything on a single trade (cough JP Morgan haha)! Daddy congress is watching haha. I think they make a lot of their money off services as well as trading. They have lots of traders with different biases so they kinda hedge eachothers? They make money by flipping HFT and exploiting mispricings in the market with super computers probably.

John...IMO it's a bad idea to play a news event either up or down because you never will know how the market will react to it..Today we had great ADP numbers and the market sold off earlier.

Happy to be out of my appl and reclaim that capital finally... stop hit @612, for a small profit.  I'll probably keep on eye out for a decent dip and try an earnings play on it again.

I'm expecting another correction soon as a result of EU realization that things are not at all resolved, before things get better.
