True, there's a certain number of easily-manipulated simpletons that will vote Republican no matter what.... although I think it has a lot more to do with intelligence than income level. I've seen poor idiots and rich idiots alike buy the GOP's snake oil.

You mean like Obama telling the public he has created MILLIONS of jobs but can't prove it?

OR... Obama just said, "The private sector jobs are just fine!"

Then the Numbers came out and crapped in his face.

Did anybody here know the actual U-6 unemployment Rate is 22.5%.

Does that hit home?

Keynesian Fascism is really the answer.

[SNORT!]

ya know i saw a 14.6% figure the other day on a non biased news station.. only if that was embraced by the rest...

U-6 is classified by what tech?

Also its the same as obama saying the small biz sector is "fine"  LMFAO.. that must be code for crap.

Ill vote repub if its the last in the barrel, atleast its better than obummer. He is undeserving of a 2nd term. jmo.

I can't decide if I'm going to write in Ron Paul, or vote for libertarian Gary Johnson. Neither have a chance, but at least I'll be able to sleep after I vote. All the two party dictatorship does is bicker over the symptoms of the underlying sickness, while failing miserably to actually address and cure the underlying sickness because they're all bought and paid for like whores.

I agree. We live in a dictatorship and once every two years we have a democracy.

The Bureau of Labor Statistics measures employment and unemployment (of those over 15 years of age) using two different labour force surveys[79] conducted by the United States Census Bureau (within the United States Department of Commerce) and/or the Bureau of Labor Statistics (within the United States Department of Labor) that gather employment statistics monthly. The Current Population Survey (CPS), or "Household Survey", conducts a survey based on a sample of 60,000 households. This Survey measures the unemployment rate based on the ILO definition.[80] The Current Employment Statistics survey (CES), or "Payroll Survey", conducts a survey based on a sample of 160,000 businesses and government agencies that represent 400,000 individual employers.[81] This survey measures only nonagricultural, nonsupervisory employment; thus, it does not calculate an unemployment rate, and it differs from the ILO unemployment rate definition. These two sources have different classification criteria, and usually produce differing results. Additional data are also available from the government, such as the unemployment insurance weekly claims report available from the Office of Workforce Security, within the U.S. Department of Labor Employment & Training Administration.[82] The Bureau of Labor Statistics provides up-to-date numbers via a PDF linked here.[83] The BLS also provides a readable concise current Employment Situation Summary, updated monthly.[84]

US Unemployment 1800-1890
Estimated U.S. Unemployment rate from 1800-1890. All data are estimates based on data compiled by Lebergott.[85] See limitations section below regarding how to interpret unemployment statistics in self-employed, agricultural economies. See image info for complete data.
US Unemployment 1890-2009
Estimated U.S. Unemployment rate from 1890-2010. 1890–1930 data are from Romer.[86] 1930–1940 data are from Coen.[87] 1940–2009 data are from Bureau of Labor Statistics.[88][89] See image info for complete data.
U1–U6 from 1950–2010, as reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics

The Bureau of Labor Statistics also calculates six alternate measures of unemployment, U1 through U6, that measure different aspects of unemployment:[90]

  • U1:[91] Percentage of labor force unemployed 15 weeks or longer.
  • U2: Percentage of labor force who lost jobs or completed temporary work.
  • U3: Official unemployment rate per the ILO definition occurs when people are without jobs and they have actively looked for work within the past four weeks.[1]
  • U4: U3 + "discouraged workers", or those who have stopped looking for work because current economic conditions make them believe that no work is available for them.
  • U5: U4 + other "marginally attached workers", or "loosely attached workers", or those who "would like" and are able to work, but have not looked for work recently.
  • U6: U5 + Part time workers who want to work full time, but cannot due to economic reasons (underemployment).

Note: "Marginally attached workers" are added to the total labour force for unemployment rate calculation for U4, U5, and U6. The BLS revised the CPS in 1994 and among the changes the measure representing the official unemployment rate was renamed U3 instead of U5.[92]

Statistics for the U.S. economy as a whole hide variations among groups. For example, in January 2008 U.S. unemployment rates were 4.4% for adult men, 4.2% for adult women, 4.4% for Caucasians, 6.3% for Hispanics or Latinos (all races), 9.2% for African Americans, 3.2% for Asian Americans, and 18.0% for teenagers.[81] Also, the U.S. unemployment rate would be at least 2% higher if prisoners and jail inmates were counted.[93][94]

The unemployment rate is included in a number of major economic indexes including the United States' Conference Board's Index of Leading Indicators a macroeconomic measure of the state of the economy.

What the official Government EXPLAINATION above doesn't tell you about the U3 is this:

"Lose your unemployment benefits and you will stop filing weekly with the dept of labor.

What's the point?  You don't get benefit check or anything else.

They (gov't Lackies) then remove you as an unemployed person from the numbers."

U3 IS OFFICIAL BECAUSE IT TAKES A BIGGER LOAD OFF OF THEM.

And so on .......

Republicans are just as big government as Democrats, just in different ways.  For all the "small government" lip service, they openly promote government intrusion into our private lives, seek to make our personal choices for us, and disregard our civil liberties.  Vote Republican if your priorities are waging war on gay people, latinos, unions, public radio, and women's health, disregarding science, destroying the middle class, defaulting / shutting down the government, protecting special interests over the electorate, creating partisan gridlock, and wasting billions of dollars per year running a global empire.

Gary Johnson is somewhat smug, and not very charismatic, but he will be the Libertarian candidate on the ballot in every state. The only "wasted vote" you can cast is the one you cast for something other than what you believe in.  The notion that voting for a 3rd party is a wasted vote only applies as long as we believe it.  Not voting your conscience because you're afraid the guy you support can't win is cowardly.  The more of us that are willing to stand up and add our voices, the closer we get to destroying that failed argument.  Time to stop voting for either of 2 evils.

Republicans like to talk libertarian to get votes, but that's all it is.. talk.  They know that there aren't enough religious extremists and bigots around to win elections running on their actual goals, so they try to pretend they stand for the American values of freedom, liberty, and limited government.   They're anything but, and they don't deserve your vote.  They've got their own agenda, and it has nothing to do with any of us, or what's best for this country.

I agree Nick. 100%.

I think Judge Andrew Napolitano sums it up pretty well. They cancelled his show after he said this. Those who speak the truth seldom are very popular. I mean, look what they did to Jesus. LOL

And voting for one of the establishments picks, either one, IS sending a message? Okay...

I completely agree with Tech.

Obama needs to start exercising the executive privilege more. He needs to sign an executive order to force corporations to start spending that $2.8 trillion in cash they're sitting on as hostage so Congress won't regulate them. Another absolutely unbelievable article by Matt Taibbi in this month's Rolling Stone comparing Wall Street banks to the mafia, poetically followed up with a moving article on honest, hard working middle class families who are living in their cars. I haven't read the entire article, but the pull-out quote that caught my eye is "The father told his kids they needed to clear leaves out of the creek. It became a serious job and steadied their lives."

It's really sickening the way Obama has allowed the squeaky wheel to get the grease. He needs to compromise less and lead more.
