Historical prices for options

Hi all,

I'm pretty new to options and I have been working out some strategies for the last few months. Is there anywhere to get historical prices on options? It would sure be helpful.

In the meantime I have started a spreadsheet for my options watch list.

TIA

Doubt that there are any historical price charts on options.

There are charts for options as long as they are still trading. I don't think there are any brokers/sites that show charts for options that have already expired if that's what you're asking? confused.gif

Well I'll be. You are right "there are charts". I just couldn't find them at TK and assumed they didn't exist. Thanks thumbup.gif

Charts are pretty useless for options simply because of the way time affects option premiums.

Stevie, assuming you mean options that are still trading (i.e. not just for backtesting) Think or Swim has great options charts. Here's what you can get for the SPY Jun 125 calls...

^^ damn looks exactly like the spy chart lol

+ on TOS sometimes you can look at expired options too just changing some of the info:

e.g.

.SPY120616C125

^^ that's june's

.SPY120421C125

^^that's april's

formula is

tickersymbol 2 digit year/2 digit month/2 digit expiration day/C for call, P for put/ strike

Thanks Rando. Is there anything you can't do with TOS's platform? LOL -My only problem with TOS is that every time I fire it up it will kill an entire day while I try to figure out how to program the customization I want.

Excellent! Thank You Tones

You can set default charts so it is easier to load whatever styles you want, you can preload all sorts of things in them. I'm not sure if you know that, if so and it still takes a lot of time, the frustration is understandable. But you can save the whole layout including multiple windows and you can set chart defaults/save chart as a template. Pretty useful, if you're using all that it is easy to get it up and running.
