Any of you have the higher end Airline Rewards cards such as the Citi Executive AAdvantage World Elite MasterCard or MileagePlus Club Card? The annual fee is very high, but it looks like you earn points at a higher rate than standard travel cards.

havent shopped around in years...just being loyal as long as things dont get taken away form me or get better and better...still have to use my debit card for places that dont take amex tho

I don't have a credit card... I've just never needed one! I know that many people are very responsible with their credit cards, but I just don't like the idea of spending money that I don't have. The only time I want to do that is when I buy a house, because it would take me forever to save up $100,000+. And a house is sort of an investment in it's own right.

I'm currently trying to get preapproved for a loan to buy my first house, but I don't have credit... So my mom suggested that we add my name to a few of her credit cards, since she has excellent credit. Then when the bank checks my credit, it would look like I have a really high score!

If you pay your credit card off in full every month then you aren't essentially spending money you don't have.  Plus you get money back on everything you are buying.  There really is no reason not to have a credit card unless you are a shopaholic that can't budget your money.

Agreed!

I'll also thrown my vote in for the Chase Freedom.  I try to put everything I can on that card (elec bill, cable, purchases, etc.)  With the cash back and quarterly rewards I usually get back well over $2k a year from them.

I agree. There is also reduced risks with credit card vs. cash/check. If you only carry credit cards in your wallet, you don't have to worry about it getting stolen or lost, vs. cash where it's just gone. Also, if you buy something and it turns out it was a scam or a ripoff, you can charge it back, whereas with cash your only option is to go to court.

I highly recommend you visit www.myfico.com and join the forums, they're very informative and cover a vast selection of credit-related topics. While you're there, pull your FICO score from either TransUnion or Equifax. This will give you an idea of where you stand in a lender's eyes. You may see you don't have any credit or you may find a small amount of activity in your profile, either way it's good to know.

For canadians

www.redflagdeals.com

I have an MBNA card I got back in 2007 1.99% interest for life as long as you never miss a payment

I cash advanced the entire 15k back in 2007 and put it on my mortgage since the rate was lower.

at 1.99% thee is less then 20$ interest per month with a 15k balance.
