Cubs18 trek from $8,000 to $25,000 (CURRENT $25,300) - Trade Journal of a 20 year old trader

Hi!  I am Zach aka Cubs18.  I am a 20 year old finance major at Ball State University in Indiana.  I have been trading for about 3 years off and on, I lost money when I began at 16 but since then have been learning all I can via books/forums/websites.

I had an old thread here, in which I started with $3,750 and here I am with $8,000.  Now I want to get to that $25,000 mark.  I stopped updating that thread...but now I am back and want a clean thread for this goal.

My goal in this thread is to turn my current account balance of $8,000 into $25,000 .  There is not really any time frame on this goal.  This will be a way to keep myself accountable for my trades/track my trades and share my experiences with others.

I do not have a set strategy, I like to go wherever I think I can make a money. My trading methods are not for everyone and I suggest you NOT follow them as they can be very risky at times.  I trade stocks/options.  I will be posting charts/analysis for my trades.  (haven't been doing the charts/analysis thing -- will get back into that.  sorry guys)

I tweet my trades sometimes @zach1992trades

Feel free to chime in anytime and enjoy the thread!!  biggrin.gif

Starting Balance for thread:  $8,000

CURRENT BALANCE: $25,300

(note that gains may be unrealized and this is the end of day balance - no matter realized/unrealized loss/gain)

TOTAL WITHDRAWALS: $9,026

OPEN TRADES

BIDU july 115 puts - 35 contracts - in 4.40

FXI august 28 puts - 35 contracts - in .59

V june 115 puts - 25 contracts - in 1.35

DONT FOLLOW MY TRADES!!!!!  THESE ARE JUST IDEAS AND THOUGHTS.  NOT A BROKER.  NOT ANYTHING.  JUST A KID WITH A TRADING ACCOUNT.

Well...looks like I won't be getting those puts I wanted.  If we see this huge gap down, I am a little scared to take puts.  Will look for a bounce to get puts...

Who knows though, just my random thoughts.

I'm 22 and new to everything too.

I've looked it up but still don't get it...what the hell is a PUT?

never played golf before?  A PUT is a shot made on a golf course..

Hey Cub, Good luck man. i like your pic as ive read that book before.  It is a good story of rags to riches to rags again and back to riches. lol.

A put is an option you buy if you believe the price of a stock will decline.  Basically like shorting in the sense you are betting on the price to go down.

I'm on ETrade and it says my account doesn't have the ability to do that yet?

You have to get approved for options trading

Looks like we might not get as big of a gap down.  Going to look for a rally to take some puts on.

Took $114 out.  Gonna buy a new monitor to replace one of my current two.  Plus, a 24" monitor will be great for trading.  My current two monitors are only like 19" each or something.  TOO SMALL!

Anybody had any experiences with this monitor?

By the way, that monitor is really neat. I have the 22" version of it on my other system and it's been running for a nice 3 years now.
