Stock Market Intraday Chat: May 7 - May 11 - Page 11

Playing with derivatives like UVXY are sure ways to lose money unless you know exactly what the hell you're doing. Very few traders know what they are doing when they handle these types of instruments. I have a very small long term holding on TVIX (break even is around $14) and it's been nothing but a loser. I'd recommend shorting or buying puts if you expect the markets to go down, or at least do volatility option spreads.

PCLN earnings release tomorrow. I might buy some June $800 calls for around $18 and  June $650 puts for around $8. (I'm going off of an options chart I saw two hours ago so don't quote me on these numbers and I don't know why I'm writing in italics. I cannot turn it off at all, shoot).

S&P gonna fool around for a while before the next move! wink.gif
post #206 of 806

Tomorrow, I wont be surprised if markets shed most of the recovered points from today

Yep, some 1330-1340 action on the ES would be pretty good before the next move higher.

Question:

Say I buy 10 shares of AAPL

5 at 550

5 at 575

If I want to sell them do I have to do it in 2 separate transactions?

Or can I sell all 10 at once?

You can sell them all at once. I wouldn't use this thread for questions like that though as others will be mad.

Lol, no you can sell them however you want. Your break-even price will be $562.5 and that's all that will matter. Otherwise you can sell however many you want at any time.

Sweet...yeah I'm getting into 4 more (that are long term/reliable IMO) and I want to do half tomorrow at open...and half in a couple days to see where it's at.

Are prices normally the most expensive/cheapest in the beginning? Or is it all luck?

Say the last price is 55.75, the bid is 55.64, and the ask is 56...if I placed my orders now for the market open what price will I get these at?

The last, bid, ask, or current for when the market opens.

I'd assume the current for when the market opens...but I have no idea what the other prices mean.

Depends on pre-market for where you get filled. The numbers you are looking at now can change very easily depending on futures. What do you mean are prices the most expensive/cheapest in the beginning?

If you mean when the market opens, that is all relative to general market position and the trends. Among many other things.

Say I invest in Walmart at market open tomorrow (it's currently at 59.19)...if the bid is 59.14 and the ask is 59.24....what should I get Walmart at 9:30am tomorrow morning?

It wouldn't be too far off from what the number is now, right?

Chances are, no it shouldn't be too far off, but please do not take that risk.

So I already put these trades in (since I'll be driving to work around 9:30)...should I cancel them and do them when I can (live) or leave them to automatically go through.

I can't tell you what to do. Just understand that you can get filled at a price that is not where it closed today.

Well I just mis-clicked and went long 1 ct on ES.. Awesome execution.... From now I am turning active trader on ToS off when I am not trading.

I can buy it with a limit so if it goes over a certain number it won't go through.

I'm assuming that's how that works...right?
