It is easier said than done but you really shouldn't bring emotion into any trade. When you do it will carry over into your next one, it's just human nature. Use disciplined mental stops to contain losses or protect gains and stay in the moment. When it comes to emotion, past performance is a guarantee of future results. smile.gif

As Money Game stated, it's tough not to do, but very important.    Here's a thread from a while back that I found helpful.

http://www.hotstockmarket.com/t/185276/the-psychology-of-trading

Mid-way down the first page Rock talks about "Trade Polluting,"  a good short read, and definitely worth it.

Above you can see the green trend lines rising from the bottom right into the chart. Getting damn close to the initial test on those

lows on that regression channel off last years lows:

Wow, it's dead in here today...

Anyways... ES gave me the cover/entry point I desired on that trendline.

I flipped it and sold 1363 resistance. I'm still long bias though, expecting more out of this bounce.

We very well could still chop back and forth for a bit instead. We'll see, I'm currently positioned long on this last dip.

Have some breathing room and a very very tight stop set so I can manage the position well.

Guess I'm going short on SPY. Forgot I had a limit order in for a 137c/139c credit spread. Got a good price though, now bring the red! koolaid.gif

look at nflx tanking away

$88.0 at the moment, it was at 109 when I posted the following message 3 days back.

It may come below 100 after earnings, so I think puts will be a good bet. However, the premiums look high already.

Would you have posted if it actually ran upward post-earnings? It's like you want credit for a call that most anticipated (a large move one way or the other)--most estimated weak earnings.

What I am saying is that Netflix would have had to beat largely to have a massive upward move. If it was inline, slightly better or a larger than expected loss, the stock was going to see pullback. The magnitude has a lot to do with how much the stock has ran up since the lows (and previous earnings), but more importantly, investors are seeing changes in their business model (going online only IMHO is a poor decision), not to mention aggressively trying to capture market share in Europe.

If you can use mental stops you're way ahead of the game. thumbup.gif  The only way I can leave out emotions is to  make my trade, set my stop and get away from the computer. I may start using OCO for every trade (futures) which would leave me out of the whole scenario. My problem is setting the limit price.

Yes but who needs it eh ?........Lol.

Here is my post from last Friday ;

.

Once she gets below this here 3000 level ?

Why, her floor should just "fall right away"....Lol

.

And even BEFORE the HUI 500 Level gave way (a couple of months ago) ?

I began hollering "Next stop HUI 400 !"......to howls of derision and slander and mockery.

.

big.chart?nosettings=1&symb=hui&uf=0&type=2&size=2&sid=16794&style=320&freq=1&entitlementtoken=0c33378313484ba9b46b8e24ded87dd6&time=8&rand=1750869652&compidx=aaaaa%3a0&ma=0&maval=9&lf=1&lf2=0&lf3=0&height=335&width=579&mocktick=1

.

Can anyone here see just why I suspected it ? (that the HUI was headed towards 400) ?

Just study that level below :

Yes ?......HUI 400 Baby !......HUI 400 !

"Won't see a broad market rebound until......the HUI 400 gets hit"  (I wrote weeks ago)

You mention it being quiet in here and I don't think it's because everyone is so busy. I think a lot of people are sick of the disrespect shown in this intraday thread. You and I may have totally different views concerning the market and even though I may disagree I'm not going on a rant calling you every name in the book. I'm not going to say you're an azz kizzer because you have friends and I'm not going to disregard your comments because I don't think you have enough experience. Some of us go into self defense mode when this crap starts and end up being as bad as the individual starting it. So some of us just don't post anymore.

None of this is aimed at you or anyone else in particular but I'm just passing the word around. We are all in here because we love trading and we try to improve ourselves based on what others have experienced. When the rants stop I think you'll see this thread getting back to normal.

For my part I apologize to the members.

I also have tried NFLX in Canada and their service is pathetic. The selection is horrible so even if they get people to subscribe they likely lose alot of them because it doesn't take long to go through what few movies they have. The clearance bin at walmart has a better selection. I have to wonder how many people in Canada who have the service use a work around to get the US selection (for basically the same price. As a canadian I feel ripped having to pay so much for so little. I know it is not totally NFLX's fault but.....

I suspect that the reason this board is so now deathly silent......

Is because weeks ago this board was so predominantly Bullish.

And that they have all now been made humbled and silent.

no this board is silent b/c opex was last week that whipped the hell out of everyone & earnings from every single company occurring this week.. this is a horrible time to trade/analyze the markets IMO.. it's just straight up gambling. bullish/bearish does not have anything to do w/ the lack of activity.. as a matter of fact, most people on here are bearish.

nowwhat, tell us what trades you are in instead of belittling everyone like you're some clairvoyant saint..

mods can we ban nowwhat plz.. s/he adds nothing nothing but spam.. i think we've all had enough.

Bob, all I meant by that was usually we see some analysis on where things are going during the day so I was surprised.  I figured it meant everyone was making a killing on puts or shorting it and didn't want to write nothing since they were busy (wasn't in any sort of serious manner)

I usually look in here for Rando, mpr, mjoke or rock to post to learn from
