Strong internals continue

NYSE 5.3:1

NASDAQ 4.8:1

1414 were the previous highs on the S&P cash, now at 1411, looks like we may try for a test.

Map is mostly green across the board

First little sell spike of the day, -717 TICK, nothing special, but its the first sell tick since the open, lets see if it leads to anything further

When is Spain due to start being a problem?

Quote:

Italy’s Prime Minister Mario Monti warned that Spain could reignite the European debt crisis as euro-area ministers this week prepare a deal to strengthen the region’s financial firewall.

Monti pointed to Spain’s struggle to control its finances ahead of a finance ministers meeting in Copenhagen starting on March 30, where officials will seek agreement to raise a 500 billion-euro ($664 billion) ceiling on bailout funding.

Followed by a quick comment by Ben that he will hit the switch on QE3 if that starts to happen, which would put us at S&P 1500 almost immediately laughing.gif

My TVIX and HVU are getting roflstomped lol.

Guys, help if possible. HVU (Toronto), what would be an equivalent opposite to it? Options strategies? Opposing ETF?

HVU :Horizons BetaPro S&P 500 VIX Short-Term Futures Bull Plus ETF (ETF)

That sounds exactly like the VXX, UVXY or something like those.

First a question... do you know exactly what the underlying on those instruments? If you don't know exactly, off the top of your head, you never should have bought them. IMO UVXY VXX and TVIX are all suckers' bets so long as VIX futures are in contango of more than about 5% front month futures to VIX. If that doesn't make sense, you should probably not be holding these dangerous machetes.

Breadth has been fading ever since the open. I thought it should hold around +1400 to +1600 if the upside were to continue into the afternoon... so far 1600 looks pretty good. I do think we set fresh rally highs on ES before settlement today... really no big stretch to say that since we are just 3 handles off.

When I bought them, the contango discussion here came to light well after the fact.

the intra trend is going to reverse here slightly as we are rolling off the 3-19 1405.. the ticks are somewhat in a downward slope and the adv to dec volume is starting to turn slightly.

Also i feel that since the metals options contacts expire tomorrow that those are running and pushing other things around.. I mean what did ben say that he hasent before, nothing.

Good god... SPY 42MM volume after noon? We might not hit 100MM, more likely we end 105-118 MM or so, but this is really, really dull. These are the perfect conditions for them to fire off some of those light buy programs during the lunchtime trading coma, if we see some 1 min bars in the 600-900K share range, with price popping 5-12 cents, you can bet on a day like this, those will be buy programs. With breadth weakening and nothing much happening, they might do that just to keep price stuck up here.
