It's not about the money. It's about the stats. The money will come.

Understand the results your strategy produces so you know

what to expect in regards to your risk and profit potential.

This will help you manage your trade without too much fear, without too much greed...

but right in the middle of both.

1 more trade off yesterday's POC.

It's also the POC on the week.

Used today's POC as the target for the rubberband snap.

3 small losers in a row after a nice run.

The winners were all ES and one 8 tick 6E trade.

the losers were CL, 6E, ES (3 tick losses)

Probably means I need to shut 'er down

as I'm indecisive.

Only 62% winning percentage but high r:r and expectancy.

Long term trend short term countertrend back to the POC for 12 tick MFE/Profit and 2 tick MAE.

Pretty simple point and shoot. Glad it worked out.

Guess some news came out. Just another example of price before news.
I've noticed this a lot lately. I'm already in the trade. News hasn't been released yet.

My trade starts moving in the positive direction and I exit at my target. Then 5 min or less later

I see a news event that helped move price in my desired direction although I was already reading

strength/weakness before such news was released. It's easier to trade what you see

instead of trading the news IMO.

Possible ES trade 4-9-2012.JPG

Hi Ichi, was currently sitting on my 1376.50 limit and 1375.50 stop trying to let price come to me. Feel free to let me know what you think

that's too tight of a stop for my method but it may work for yours.

I'm not sure what kind of risk you've experienced with this method.

If you usually experience 7 ticks or less of risk with this setup then it sounds reasonable.

If you are not sure or you have experienced more on average, then it may be too tight.

I have been having a hard time with one point stops actually, so the fact that you say it's too tight makes sense. I don't have statistics just yet so I would say I am not sure. A 3 point stop was probably more suitable, but I was thinking if I get stopped then I will just re-enter at a lower price. When ever I try to use a 1.25-2.50 point stop I often find myself getting pushed out? I just need more data I suppose... hmm.gif Do you hear/see many people using 1 point stops and if so what is their r2r ratio like for that trade?

Hmm came down and tested my limit level, but no fill as of yet.

Everyone has a different approach but it sucks to put your stop tight, get stopped out and still have your long/short signal valid.

It forces you to reenter. I'm not into that. If my signal is still valid then I should still be in the trade, right?

Yeah I would say so. I think I like using market orders better once I see price reacting on my level to a degree. Still finding what I like best and what works for me. frown.gif But I need more live data!

Thanks for the help though.

Ichi is the Futures God for a reason. You have to give these things room to run but manage your risk at the same time so it's hard to do. One big disadvantage to tight stops is that you'll likely go in and out of a trade frequently and end up paying a huge amount in commissions. You would be surprised to see how quickly they can add up.

Best of luck to ya. thumbup.gif

Yea definitely. I had a (my only one) GC trade with less than a $190 stop and took $780 to the bank today so I really just need to work on knowing when to use the certain risk management strategies that I have. Identifying the setup and being patient is my main concern at the moment I think. Sometimes I have found great uses for tight stops, my thoughts are it just comes down to knowing when and how to use them.
