21Vianet, which began operating in 1999, is China's largest carrier-neutral Internet data center services provider by revenue, according to International Data Corp. It operates 47 data centers in 33 cities throughout China and serves more than 1,300 customers.
It hosts its customers' computer servers and networking equipment in its data centers, keeps them connected to the Internet, and manages their networks. As a carrier-neutral center, customers can connect with Internet networks operated by a variety of telecom and other companies, and 21Vianet uses its own technology to pick the best route.

21Vianet Group Inc. (VNET) made swift early trading gains on its first day as a public company Thursday.
The company's stock opened at $20.26 on the Nasdaq, up 35.1% from its initial public offering price of $15, and was changing hands recently at $21.50, up 43%. The company sold 13 million American Depositary shares, 500,000 more than its revised size, at a price above its expected range of $12 to $13.
On Wednesday, in response to strong investor demand, the company had already increased the number of shares it had expected to sell by 1 million from 11.5 million and the price range from its original level of $10 to $12.

21Vianet Group Inc. (NASDAQ: VNET) gained USD 2.9 million in net profit in the second quarter of 2012, versus negative CNY 22.8 million reported in the same period of 2011.

Meanwhile, the net operating revenue increased 58.2% year on year to USD 57.4 million in the reporting period. The diluted earnings per American depository share (ADS) were USD 0.06. The gross profit grew 67.1% to USD 16.3 million, with a gross profit margin of 28.4%.

The information is from the second-quarter financial report issued by the company today.

The company's third-quarter operating revenue is reckoned to be CNY 388 million-CNY 400 million, and the adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortization (EBITDA) is guessed to be CNY 74 million-CNY 83 million.
