Between 5pm EST and 1-2am EST, there is usually a light volume of moves going on... Asia is lite except for the occasional AUD move on News... When I trade overnite--prime activity time usually begins around 2am-3am and goes on til NY opens thru til lunch EST.
IMO..
As for pairs... In Asia--AUD pairs, Yen crosses, NZD pairs are often the ones to watch. After London kicks in-- EUR and GBP major & cross pairs start up and Yen crosses with those euro currencies can get wild. CAD can kick up some movement as early as 4-5am EST and stay active til after lunch EST....
This is all generally speaking of course.... There is no set rule--which is why when you are trading forex or learning how--you really need to spend some time--lots of time, getting to know ONE pair. Learn how it moves, what moves it, its habits during quiet times, and its habits during active times... Takes while--but once you learn a pair you can then move to another and have a pair you KNOW how to trade...
