Rules, Regulations and Terms of Service

If you have signed up as a member, then you have already read and agreed to Terms Of Service (TOS).

This is a civilized board populated with experienced investors, we do not tolerate:

1) Harassment & Bashing: HSM members are not permitted to harass or bash other members. Please do not post or transmit any unlawful, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, profane, hateful, racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable material of any kind, including, but not limited to, any material which encourages conduct that would constitute a criminal offense, violate the rights of others, or otherwise violate any applicable local, state, national or international law. Please note that this also includes the posting of taunts on a forum solely for the purpose of demeaning that forum's topic and/or members.

1.1) Inappropriate Language, Insults and Bickering: There is nothing wrong with have a difference of opinions, but if you are unable to express yourself using the linguistic skills of an adult you will be banned. If you have an opinion contrary to majority of other investors about a specific security, state your case and leave them be. The use of inappropriate, offensive language or language substitutions are not permitted on HotStockMarket.com. Inappropriate or offensive language includes, but is not limited to, any language or content that is sexually oriented, sexually suggestive or abusive, harassing, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, profane, hateful, or that contains racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable material of any kind. We ask that you please be considerate to other members in the forums when posting your messages. HSM is a place that is friendly to members of all ages and that parents know is safe for kids. We will not allow linking, mention or reference to any website or organization that contains any of the aforementioned objectionable content. Any posts or links made to websites containing such will be removed and you will be banned without warning.


2) Pumping or bashing of stocks. If you must make a negative statement about a company, have substance in your post to back up your statement and please deliver it in a professional manner. If you are bullish about a stock, we encourage you to share opinions backed with logic, fundamentals and technicals.

For example...
Wrong: XYZQ is going to the moon! Dont miss out! BUY BUY BUY!
Right: XYZQ has showing increasing revenues and improving debt ratios over the past 3 quarters. I feel this stock has plenty of upside once resistance levels are cleared!

3) No spamming, advertising or linking to commercial sites of any kind: No external links to other websites such as stock message boards, financial blogs, newsletters, affiliate, referrer based compensation, MLM schemes, adult or commercial sites. Linking to personal sites, even if they are not commercial or revenue generating is generally not permitted. Please ask a moderator if you are unsure. Please be aware that we do not permit external links on your signature file.

4) No dual aliases. The Forum Admin can see your IP address with every post you make. An IP address identifies your computer and internet service provider. If you suffer from a multiple personality disorder, please provide us with a doctors note, or face a permanent ban.

Some additional guidelines:

Borderline Bashing is a grey area, members who have negative opinions about a stock and go onto a thread to let their opinions be known, are asked to do so in a diplomatic and mature manner. There are times when this is acceptable, when a member has valuable information to contribute and is trying to help out their fellow member. To go beyond this, does not help the thread and many times creates turmoil.

Demeanor - HSM is a private board, this is not public domain, you are here as a guest and as such was ask that you use common sense and abide by the simple rules listed above.

Banning - HSM may terminate your membership if you breach or violate the rules or TOS. If the situation warrants a time out, a temporary ban will be imposed ranging from 1 to 365 days depending on the offense.

Correct: AAPL - Apple Computers
Wrong: OH MY GOD!!! AAPL!!! WTF LOL?!!!!111!

Ranks and Status

The status next to a persons name works like this:

HSM Newbie 1-199 posts
HSM Regular 200-499
HSM Enthusiast 500-999
HSM Addict 1000+


This is based purely upon the members post count and in no way reflects their stock picking history or ability.

There is also a forum assigned ranks:

Junior Analyst
Senior Analyst
Stock God

These ranks are issued to a member by the peers, these ranks are far more important than the post count mentioned above.

Starting A New Thread Rule

You can only create a new thread if one does not previously exist or has been left dormant for more then 3 months.

You can not just create a thread at your whim. Doing so is considered spam and the thread will be deleted.

If you really feel like you want to start a new thread, you must contact the original thread starter and ask them for permission. If they say yes, forward that PM to a mod and you can start a new one! If you cannot contact them, PM a mod and ASK for permission to start a new thread.

Rules for HSM Live Chat.

All of the above rules for HSM also apply to the HSM Live Chat. Please read the first post of this thread carefully.

Off Topic Chat must stay in Private Messages or be taken out of LiveChat to the Cocktail Lounge. Any member who regularly post off topic after being asked to stop will be banned from the LiveChat for a time that the moderators feel is appropriate.
